*sets up a tent here* yes hello i Live In Your Inbox Now i will be here awhile. nejire Should smooch tamaki she's Gotta!!!
The cherry blossoms are starting to fall.
The weather has been warm for a few days now – maybe a few weeks, if she’s being honest and she remembers correctly. Through a few passing storms, the sun has started to break through and the blossoms that were small just a short while ago are full now – open, surrounded by little beds of green, some of them shaken loose by the Spring breeze so that leaves can take their places on the branches that fan out over campus. How strange, she thinks, to have moved into dorms such a short while ago and to know that there isn’t much time left, is there? Before things will change again.
Nejire remains where she is – lying out in the soft grass, her gaze fixed on the branches overhead as her fingers play gently with the petals in her hand. There is a smile on her lips, but perhaps that is because her lips feel more comfortable in a smile than they do any other way. In any case, there is only one person here with her and Tamaki wouldn’t be able to see if her eyes held the warmth of her grin or not from this angle, could he ?
( is it a lie? when she doesn’t know what she’s hiding – if she doesn’t know if she’s hiding at all? has she ever worn her heart anywhere but stitched onto her sleeve?
it’s just – it feels at odds. the quiet warmth of the afternoon against the thoughts that she cannot turn off, no matter how much she longs to. how she keeps seeing Mirio’s face, and hears Eri’s voice, and the weight of a ticking clock. how she thinks of Tamaki and how she can’t stop noticing how strong he’s gotten, how he’s striding forward. mostly she thinks of them – all of them, together. late night practices, early morning exams, talking to first year students. every mistake and stumble. every accomplishment. the first time they’d met and how, in this moment, she worries for the first time about – letting them go. )
– A shadow falls over her, but there is no part of Nejire that is afraid. Even before she realizes it consciously, she knows that shadow. And by the time she does, she’s propped up on one elbow and looking at Tamaki with wide, open eyes – quick enough to catch a glimpse of cherry blossoms all strung together, stem by stem, fallen off but knitted beautifully back together until they form a crown that finds its way, by Tamaki’s gentle hands, around her head. ( and how silly, but how much her heart swells when she realizes: a perfect fit. )
She doesn’t have to wonder if the smile at her lips reaches her gaze. Lights glimmer in Nejire’s eyes as she sits up, all airy, gentle enthusiasm honeying her voice. ❛ Oh, for me ? Tamaki, that’s so thoughtful !! ❜ And it is, and she means it, but suddenly she finds herself unwilling to not underscore that thought with something more – and without a second thought Nejire is leaning forward, pressing her fingers against Tamaki’s chin and her lips against his cheek – conveying with something better than words all the gratitude and affection and renewed hope she possesses.
