Liking Feminine Clothes v.s. Wanting to Wear Them
I like dresses. I think they’re cool.
My little sister gets asked to every school dance and my mom buys her whatever dress she wants because there’s a whole lot of dress money she never got to spend on me. And those dresses are awesome— she's tried on flowy ones, colorful ones, elegant and sparkly ones, fairytale-ish ones, and dresses that made her look like she just walked straight out of a movie screen. Each time she gets a new one, my mom says, "You know, I would LOVE to see you wear a dress again. You should try one of these on!" But despite how much I like them, I always refuse. This is why:
When I was little, one of my favorite things to draw was clothing. I wanted to be a fashion designer. I loved coming up with different dresses in all sorts of colors and shapes. It was a hobby I fazed out of like many others, but at one point in time it was something I loved.
I flat-out rejected that era of my life once I had gotten older and started to understand my masculine identity a little more-- I didn't know how to reconcile the two. And then, when I got to high school and started dress shopping for the few dances I went to, I actually... had fun. I remember being confused by that.
The only dresses I’d ever worn before that were those relaxed, floral-print dresses everyone wears to church in Utah. Hated those. But for Homecoming, I got to look at options that were a lot more fun, more creatively designed. As I shopped, I discovered that I actually did really like dresses. And when I started trying them on, I discovered something else:
I liked dresses, I just… didn’t really like wearing them.
I think this experience is what taught me that there is a difference between liking a piece of clothing and feeling at home in it. The dress I wore to Homecoming was super cool, and looked amazing on me, but I also felt the exact same way I had felt on a night I dressed up for a 1910's themed party: like I was wearing a costume. A cool one... but a costume nonetheless, one I was definitely sick of by the end of the night.
It all made sense. This is why I had so many clothes in my closet I liked, but never wore. I liked the way they looked on a hanger, but not the way I felt when I wore them.
Also, note: Of course, masc people can still like wearing feminine clothing! It's just not for me, and this is part of how I discovered that about myself.

@eddieironmaiden submitted: Along with the black swallowtails this year, my wife had a few other friends...
Ohhhh yes I love them all! Especially the crinkly newly-emerged one at the bottom of the last photo. Scrunkled....

Update: officially started drawing the comic for Eclosion. Its a story idea I've had for a while but never finished because of college classes. No more "eventually I'll make something." I've already made good progress and have things relatively well planned out.
The main cast has been designed, will be posting the rest of the intro ref sheets soon.
I have the main plot already outlined, including the ending and other major events. I also already have rough sketches for the first three pages.
Plus two potential peices for the cover art! Unsure which one to use (poll below drawings)
which cover
1 - just the moth with text
2 - Beast and moth man woods scene
Anyway- I'll hopefully be finished with the first few pages soon and will be posting them semi-regularly. I will figure out a proper schedule once I start getting pages fully done and see how much time on average I'll need between posting.
