Even if I dont have highschool calculus, can I still take the economics 101 course?
A great tool to use is the U of T website for each department. I'm copying and pasting exactly what the website says regarding ECO100 (there is no such thing as 101 only 100 and 105).
ECO100Y1 Introduction to Economics[48L/24T]
An introduction to economic analysis and its applications: price determination; the role of competition; international trade and finance; the theory of production and employment; the role of money and the banking system; monetary and fiscal policy. NOTE graphical and quantitative analysis are used extensively.
Exclusion: ECO105Y1Recommended Preparation: MCV4U (Calculus & Vectors) and MHF4U (Advanced Functions), or equivalent secondary school mathematics creditsDistribution Requirement Status: This is a Social Science courseBreadth Requirement: Society and its Institutions (3)
The university cannot require you to take certain high school courses, because it doesn't belong to the university. But I would certainly take it, I'm pretty sure the calculus course is mandatory to even get into the university? (I don't remember). I honestly never took the course as I mentioned before I had a transfer credit. I can assure you they do use math though, and it would be to your aid to be prepared for it. Again, if you have any questions what they mean by equivalent courses I would call up the department personally.
I hope that helped!
With love and hope,
