Sources for carbon footprints / ecological impact
Objective/introduction: when I try to decide whether to buy something or not, I want to know the total ecological impact of the product - and be able to compare it to other alternative products or solutions.
I want to know the energy consumption for the products' whole lifecycle: production of the products' raw materials and the product itself, including transport, packaging, ... the energy consumption during it's use, and for it's disposal (recycleability etc.).
Including also if possible what kind of fuel/energy source is being used at what stage, and the kind of production processes used: pollution through chemicals, and also labour conditions of the workers.
Then: are there ecological and social labels available for the product?
Strangely enough, there seems to be a huge lack of information about any of this (excepting labels). There is not even a unified standard for the calculation of the carbon footprint.
So I want to gather all relevant sources of information on carbon footprint/ecological impact here, and on specific products.
Discussion and participation by adding sources and informations are highly welcome!
