There were few times even Ace couldn't expect the unexpected, but here they were, rain drenching him and Rosalyn as they stood in the empty parking lot of Vita Nova Academy without an umbrella. Rosalyn looked between him and the nearest school building, which was now closed.
"I don't suppose you have some sort of Ace magic that can get the sky to stop raining, do ya?" she teased with a half grin. Ace seemed too lost in his own thoughts to process the question right away. He looked back at her with a small smirk of his own.
"I'd definitely use. it if I did," he responded. "Out of all the days for my car to be in the shop..."
"I'll just text my dad to pick us up, he's just a few blocks away." Rosalyn pulled out her phone to shoot off a quick text to her father. As they waited for her father to arrive, Rosalyn found herself leaning on Ace's shoulder. She shivered as she felt the wet clothing squish against the cheek, but did not move.
"It's been a while since we've done this," Ace commented suddenly.
"Hm? Done what?" Rosalyn raised an eyebrow.
"Nothing. Like, actually nothing."
"You've been awfully busy since you transferred here," Rosalyn said. "Well, you're almost never NOT busy... I like doing nothing with you."
Ace was silent for a beat.
"I like doing nothing with you too."
"I'm glad you're still here, Ace," Rosalyn said with a hint of vulnerability in her voice.
"So am I, Rosalyn."
She moved her head up from Ace's shoulder to face him directly. Rain continued to stream down her face and clothes, but she was focused on one thing.
"Promise me we can be like this more often. Just the two of us... just being in each other's presence. Without the rain of course," she said.
"I can make that happen," Ace said. He pulled her in by her shoulders for a soft kiss.
