She Can Stop Traffic - Television Personalities
2006
Effortlessly catchy and wonderfully understated
A perfect slice of Television Personalities’ naïve pop brilliance.

Television Personalities - Silly Girl
A-T-2 319 Whaam! Records
Whaam! Records is closely related to Creation Records that would launch in 1983 (and ultimately destroy indie music and bring about the dominance of the big 3 major record labels.) Ironically Whaam! had a mod slant a precursor to retro music (check out The Times track below) which has pretty much dominated all popular music released from the mid 1990s onwards, seeing new ideas dwindling with our expectations of progress (the idea our health, work, wealth, and living standards would be an improvement on that of our parents)
1982 innocent times, maybe. Whaam! Records was overseen by founding members of Television Personalities, Daniel Treacy and Alan McGee's mate Ed Ball
Television Personalities - Three Wishes
The Pastels - Heavens Above the debut single for The Pastels. It was played on the John Peel Show on the 13th October 1982. The Pastels were an important band in the development of the independent music scene. Their track Breaking Lines is included on the landmark C86 cassette
The Times - I Helped Patrick McGoohan Escape from the album Pop Goes Art. If I remember right Pop Goes Art was the name of a documentary made in the mid 60s, I went to art school and I'm sure we were made to watch it. Anyway, Ed Ball left the Television Personalities and formed The Times. For context mod was very fashionable in 1982, it was the year The Jam split, they were at the height of their success achieving 2 (of the 4) number 1 singles that year in the UK
