Plaid - Perspex (from Feorm Falorx)

Really cool video for Plaid here, created with the aid of AI. Their new album Feorm Falorx is out Nov. 11th on Warp Records!

Warp Records consists of many intriguing electronic musicians, because the label's predominantly interested in these styles. Of course, calling the brand an instigator of the IDM might sound funny, though a lot of the practitioners of the idiom end up there. Plaid are another of those, though they seem to be more of the pop version of the acronym. Mind you, I'm not suggesting they're the Oasis of the Warp Records, if you catch my drift, they merely go into a multitude of directions, yet they always make sure their music remains on the lighter side of the IDM. The latter's should also not be seen as a backhanded compliment, you could read this as them being the gateway into the tough electronic music in the vein of Autechre.

Close Up Over: “Jauqq” (Bytes, 1993)

Close Up Over is one of several aliases behind the tracks on Bytes, the first collection of tracks from The Black Dog, at the time a collective consisting of mainstay Ken Downie as well as Andy Turner and Ed Handley, who left the group to focus on collaborating as Plaid. Close Up Over is one of Handley’s solo monikers (Balil is another) and his talent for rhythm and melody is evident even on these early pieces.
