Lore is a knock-down gorgeous way to get course content out into the world. It's "free and always will be" according to the website. You can't develop pages of content like you do in other LMSs, but instead you upload your own resources (doc, pdf, video, book suggestions, etc) for students to download. There's a calendar and discussion tools and it's just simple and clean and sleek.
It has no ecommerce section, but your course can be marked as private which means people have to be invited or have the course code to get in. The easiest solution to charge for courses there? Create a buy button on your site, link it to a mailing list and give them the course code in confirmation or welcome email.
Easy, free and sexy. http://lore.com/
*Note: Lore was recently purchased by Noodle, but so far they've assured users that the system is here for the long haul. And will always be free.
*Another Note: Even though it isn't created for this, Lore would make an awesome platform for team collaboration and project management. Just sayin'.
