"Texas" by Eddi Front

Eddi Front's lyrics crackle with a dry, desert heat, wind kicking dust in your eyes, the threat of fire is permanent. Front's piano stands behind her, as any best friend should, echoing each accusation with a head shake or a sigh. She's droll lest you suspect her wounds are serious but she also picks at her scabs with enough enthusiasm to submerge you in her Wonderland styled dream world.

Front is simultaneously very specific and strangely allusive throughout "Texas," both in her lyric and in the way she ends certain lines with a period and others with an ellipsis. This is a song of vignettes, an impressionistic portrait of a relationship (or relationships?) To its benefit, Front offers no easy conclusion, no narrative arc, no closure. "Texas" remains strikingly mysterious to the end.
