They’re all standing side by side. It’s nothing especially SERIOUS, but it was meant to honor the sacrifice she’d made. Rogue’s choice was her own, and Vance could respect that she’d live the way she ended up passing. On her own terms, but that didn’t mean that it wouldn’t have been hard for Declan to accept. ROGUE was still his mom, through and through.

He & Vera stand on either side of him, their hands holding his as they stand before Rogue’s grave. They’re still not entirely sure what exactly will be coming in this NEW DAWN of Night City but the best they can hope for is that she’ll rest in peace. If nothing else, the woman had suffered enough for ten lifetimes. 

IT’S OVER ISN’T IT?

The legacy of the OLD NIGHT CITY HEROES are essentially gone. Johnny would argue Kerry’s sold out that’s for sure, as did Nancy from what Vera had said. She’d stood alone. Johnny was gone, but Rogue had managed to keep on the path to greatness as it seemed their little group had always planned. But it was the end of an era as it were, and now there was no going back. A small frown plasters across his features as Declan seems so DETACHED.

“...Yeah.”

It’s all he really can say. ROGUE WAS GONE. No one could get answers from her anymore and as painful as it was, it’s hard to pretend like in HER HONOR, he wouldn’t fight the fight she & Johnny had started so long ago.

Vance was a PATIENT MAN. Despite popular belief, his patience was something that was vast, his sister had spent the majority of her life poking and prodding at it, and having a sister like Vera Welles made for someone who WAS SUFFICIENT in the ability to be patient. However, Vance was far from a SAINT, ad indicative of some of his less proud moments in life, but the SNOTTY tone that’s taken with him incites a SWIFT response that is FAR from kind or patient in the slightest.

FINGERS pinch Elias’s ear, dragging him about for the SOLE purpose of humiliating him before tossing him outside the front lawn of that GLITZY estate where the party he was attending was being held. This was a personal favor to Declan considering the fact that for some reason ( which was severely lost on Vance ironically enough ), he still had some semblance of care for his idiot brothers, so he’d asked this to be done as a PERSONAL FAVOR. 

Vance had agreed under the pretense that this was to be EASIER than dealing with Lawrence, but oh how wrong he was indeed. He should have GUESSED of course, but Declan had neglected to mention ELIAS’S bratty nature. 

“Can it punk. You don’t get the luxury of personal fuckin’ business right now. You’re drunk off your god damn ass and you look like you ain’t bathed in weeks. Now you’re gonna SIT DOWN in this back seat here and you’re gonna shut the fuck up ‘til I return you to your fuckin’ brother, UNDERSTAND? An’ don’t even think ‘bout callin’ your lil twat friend for help. I beat the slop outa him LAST TIME but he got off easy. He ain’t gettin’ that luxury this time cuz my sis ain’t gonna be here to protect him.”

“Well I ain’t usually one to be BUDDY-BUDDY with anyone tainted by bein’ a fuckin’ corpo, but HE IS still Rogue’s son, and it shows. So I GUESS he gets a pass. Most corpos ain’t half as worth a damn as he is, so I gotta respect ‘im for it, and I ain’t one to admit that every now and then I think I even see the resemblance. I think he’s tryin’ to get in touch with his ma now that she’s gone, and I gotta admire that. Family ain’t really much of a thing outside a nomad clans, so you gotta appreciate someone who tries to honor it. EVEN if he is a corpo.”

He leans against the side of the car, DECLAN perched on the hood as Vance crosses arms over his chest, enjoying the peace of a cigarette. He swore he’d never become a nomad again unless his sister decided to, but there was an UNDENIABLE charm that came with being out in the badlands. Free as a bird to do whatever one pleased. SO MUCH OPEN SPACE.

It was heaven to someone who had spent their whole life living that way. Breathing in DEEP but only knowing the open air. There was no denying he’d always hold a special place in his heart, but ultimately, HIS PLACE WAS HERE. In Night City.

“Hah...”

He grins, glancing over his shoulder as Declan speaks, the pristine vehicle parked in the middle of the desert area outside the Sunnyside Motel. He figures this was the place he felt MOST at home in the badlands, and since Declan had asked, Vance had delivered.

“...kinda. Not entirely. I know you don’t have much experience with nomads, but lemme tell ya, they’re nothin’ if not loyal. Got some friends in the ‘caldos who are helpin’ me figure out a way to help my sis.”

He leans back, glancing over at Declan for a second before grinning quietly. He suspects that he’s probably keen to get a better insight given that he just agreed to help them with their little problem. 

“...I’m almost there. I can feel it.”

He gestures with a thumbs up and perhaps his most charming grin. He’s keen to gather that Declan has finally managed to piece together what the game plan is. EVER since Rogue’s passing he suspected things would be tense for a while, and part of him is thankful they hadn’t talked about it much.

Despite how Rogue could be at times, he respected her immensely, and the reality was that the legacy she left behind now fell to DECLAN’S shoulders, not his own ( or even Vera’s for that matter ). That had so much to worry about and so much to do with so little time left to do it.

Though he suspects that it will be some time before he’s willing to give up his footing in Arasaka ( despite the ruinous state of the company as of late ), Vance can at least appreciate that he’s been willing to help them through all these difficult hurdles given how things had gone. He leans back in his seat and slides a shard across to him.

“Need some intel on this op. Had a netrunner of mine go deep diving into ‘saka stuff after the blow up while they were caught with their pants down but he couldn’t grab much else ‘bout it.”

He nods.

“There’s a fuck ton of eddies in it for you if you can get me a clearer picture of what it is. Well, that and my eternal gratitude of course.”
