She didn’t know how or why, but she could feel the tingling sensation of it beneath her fingertips like she had back when she’d been branded by the Fal’cie.
On Praxon, as Light had come to learn, magic was a normal thing, at least to the Ildrat. A stark contrast to how those on Pulse, on Cocoon, saw magic. There was only one way to be able to use magic for humans in her world. They had to be branded by a fal’cie, a fate worse than death by all. Being branded, becoming a l’cie, came with magic, but the price to be paid was a destiny, a focus, you couldn’t escape from. Fulfill it and you could sleep for eternity in a crystal tomb, fail or try to runaway, and you become a monster filled with despair just as long, a cie’th.
Lightning had told Leoth all of this, the details of how she had been branded. How the fal’cie had given her a focus, a destiny, to fulfill, which was to destroy Cocoon, her home. Instead, they had done the impossible, defied their focus, saved Cocoon, and released from their crystal slumber with no brand. Now she had no brand, but she had the power of a l’cie again.
She was scared of what that might mean, and Lightning Farron was not prone to fear.
Unable to confront or fight what was happening to her, Light turned to Leoth. The only person who had any idea what was going on with her. At first, things were innocent enough with Light seeking solace in his arms. She felt safe for the first time in so long. That whatever was happening to her, they would figure it out together.
Lightning couldn’t remember exactly how it started, how her lips had found his. She did remember the feeling of it all though, and how that was all she wanted. No thinking, just... feeling. The pressure of his body against hers, the heat from his mouth where her tongue found his sharp canines. It sent a volley of sparks through her blood that overwhelmed the buzz of the magic under her skin.
It was a welcome diversion, and she needed more.
