It was the sound that’d drawn Spencer in; like... muffled electricity, off-putting… but intriguing. Slowly, he crept down the sorority hall --- his usual ‘goofish’ stature had been momentarily corrected; shoulders back, standing tall, head crooked with a wary expression to top it all off. Brows buckled the closer he got, confused as he approached the particular sorority room. Though upon reaching the door frame, spotting the back of a little brunette’s head standing over by the dresser within, Spencer’s eyes immediately narrowed. Shoulders slumped, a defeated expression. It was the very moment he’d entered, however, that Leo’s attention had SHOT over his shoulder. Two seconds of looking at his dad and he was gone. “ LEO! ” He shouted after a beat, both pissed and taken back by his boy’s sudden disappearance.
With an irritable sigh, Spencer furthered into the room --- eyes darting around, he looked for anything out of the ordinary. For months his son had been acting up, and Spencer didn’t rightfully know why. The kid just wouldn’t talk to him. Most he’d gotten was a side glance. A lot of what he WAS getting, however, were COMPLAINTS. The few who knew Leo was his son had come to him explosively: ‘He put fishing wire across the top step, I nearly broke my neck!’, ‘There were needles in my salad!’, ‘My bed was on fire!’ Just a few he’d received over the duration of a month. Spencer thought it was bullshit at first. A full house, college students and ghosts, PLUS a vast majority of neighbors who liked to visit a lot? Anyone could’ve done those things. Literally anyone. So why the FUCK were they pointing their fingers as his kid?
It was when he’d accidentally managed to catch the tyke setting up one of his ‘pranks’ that lit the fuse of his curiosity. Pouring BLEACH into an ice cube tray, freezing and mixing them in with the rest of the ice cubes in the freezer --- but even then, Spencer had a hard time pinning everything else that was happening on him alone. It’d been very slow going; him catching on, him actually considering Leo as a suspect. And who could blame him? Leo was his son. And Spencer had only been seeing him as the cute, button-nosed sprite he’d been raising for the past two and half years. In fact, he STILL saw him that way. It was all he COULD see. Not this dastardly, mischievous little ruffian he appeared to be turning into. The ‘pranks’ were deadly, crafty, and to Spencer? Terrifying. They weren’t like the ones he came up with; best he’d ever done was smear the floor with jelly so people might slip and have to walk around with sticky butts.
From thenceforth, he’d been watching him just a little closer --- so no, Leo hadn’t come into this sorority room for ‘no particular reason’. Though everything looked alright, something was wrong. And as much as he DIDN’T want to admit it, Spencer knew it.
Gaze falling on a curious sight; on one of the mattresses sat a few old open medical text books, sprawled out carelessly across bedspread with crayon drawings of animals on the inside --- to act as if Leo had innocently found them and thought they were his to color. The bait; though to Spencer, they were just some defiled college books. “ Jesus… ” He muttered. THAT was probably going to piss someone off. The thought to gather them all up and hide them came to mind. Leo might’ve been acting like a little shit, but Spencer was still his dad; he was still going to protect him.
A furrow of his brows, the tall brunette started over to do just that --- but was immediately cut off by the sound of approaching steps. Eyes widening, he spun around and hurried over to the door. When Eden came into view, everything seemed to fall into place. This ‘prank’ was for her; whatever had been set up in the room was for her. He knew Leo had been bitter towards her, ever since she’d caught him replacing the makeup pads in this VERY room with home insulation. She’d a BULLSEYE on her back and Leo was slowly closing in.
“ Whoa, whoa, whoa… ” He rushed, hands coming up as he approached her, placing himself in her path before she was able to actually enter the room he believed to be hers. “ Don’t, uh… don’t come in here. ” A quick hand slipping behind him, Spencer grabbed onto the door handle and slowly began moving forward whilst closing the door behind him --- an attempt at forcing her back. “ There’s, uh… gas leak. ”
Shit, was that the BEST he could come up with? He was on the spot, what the fuck was he supposed to say? He didn’t know exactly what Leo had done to the room... well, other than defile some old college books. Nothing seemed to be amiss --- but it was the feeling that was keeping on edge. The feeling that it was WORSE than it seemed. Between the sound of muffled electricity and the fact that Leo was standing over by the dresser? No where near the books on the bed. Something worse had been set up in that room and he wanted to STOP it before it STARTED.
