Handmade in Cuba: Rolando Estévez and the Beautiful Books of Ediciones Vigía

The Special Collections Research Center holds a large collection of works by Cuban book artist Rolando Estévez, including many books that he designed during his time with Ediciones Vigía and examples of those published under his own imprint, El Fortín, established in 2014. A new book from the University of Florida Press explores Estévez' impact as artistic director of Ediciones Vigía from 1985-2014. Read more!

Two images of La Habana Expuesta: Antología Bilingüe, produced by the Cuban book arts collective and publishing house Ediciones Vigía. These books were acquired by CWRU students who traveled to Cuba and worked with the publisher during a study abroad trip.

Several of the Ediciones Vigía books were recently displayed in Kelvin Smith Library as part of a Hispanic Heritage month exhibit. The rest of the exhibit is still on display in the library art gallery, and features artwork by Latin-American artists of northeast Ohio.
