Style, a word with a different meaning to almost everyone on this earth. Whether you buy thrifted clothes, shop at the gap, or buy brand name everything, style is what you make it. Today after booking spring break travels to Switzerland and Prague for the first week of March I headed to Green Park tube station. This is a simple 5 minute walk from the shopping center of London, or should I say high fashion shopping center of London. I took off for the Dover Street Market a pop up shop with some of the biggest street wear brands in the world. Those featured include brands such as Yves Saint Laurent, Comme des Garçons, and Givenchy. My reason for going to a store where nearly everything is out of my price range? Experiencing different styles that I rarely see in Minnesota, getting involved in the fashion culture, and who doesn't like to window shop for socks that cost more than their shoes? But on a more serious note, the notion of style, fashion, and branding is very interesting to me. With some friends that have gotten into the clothing industry, my love for music and it's culture, and just liking to look good in general, clothes have become a small interest of mine. They way trends have affected clothing and its following is amazing. From rappers wearing baggy pants, pro sports team jerseys, and air force ones to wearing tight pants, leather joggers, and 300£ camo tee shirts, what public figures wear effects the style trends of those following them. But why not break away from this? David Morris, or D-WHY, a unsigned musician with a large following in music and fashion finds clothes at flea markets, GoodWill and also buys packs of hanes white-tees and tailors them to his style. These are just all different notions of what people consider style. While I can't afford a 300£ Givenchy tee-shirt I don't think I would ever be able to justify that amount of money, in fact there is no way I would justify that. But to each their own I guess. Instead I am committed to making my own style through things my mom cops for me at Herbergers with her employee discount, ballin on a budget, haha! But seriously, make it your own, don't be afraid to branch out! Or look into some affordable brands made by people with drive, passion, and a real love for style and clothing itself.
