Thought 1
The last 2 posts got me thinking. When is a game no longer the game it was?
In the past when a game got ported from one system to another, it seemed that the idea was to make as straight a port as possible. The power of the new machine perhaps not being utilized.
I think the creators of the new material in the last couple of entries have paid a lot of respect to the original works.
Now it has become fashionable to use all the power of the new machine to improve the graphics, sound, everything. it makes me wonder if it is still the same game. it is telling the same story right?
For a while i was really obsessed with Java games, a lot of times the same game was brought out on several different phones but not all of them had the same specs. the game had to be cut down to work on the older model phones. Different resolutions, different play. Were they the same game. What about the demakes of the big budget titles, released mostly to promote a triple A title on a powerful console. the prince of persia games, assasins creed, God of War. Surely they were telling the same story, but the same game?
Sorry it is a little muddy at the moment, but food for thought. I will come back to it and clean it up at a later date.
