And there it is.

The tuberculin test (the stuff that Dr. Tarrol injected Cordelia with) is actually still used to this day. It tests immune response to TB proteins, so it detects active disease as well as latent/inactive TB.

In places where TB is endemic, most people have been exposed to it at some point and many have latent TB, meaning the bacteria is in their body but it’s dormant and not contagious. Most won’t have any issues from it, but around 10% of people with inactive TB will later go on to develop active disease. The risk of that happening is a lot higher if they’ve become immunosuppressed in any way...
