THE ENCHANTRESSÂ â–¶ EDITH KENNEDY ( SURGICAL RESIDENT â—Ź 31 â—Ź ZOĂ‹ KRAVITZ â—Ź TAKEN )
Edith Kennedy was born to brilliant parents. Both Harvard trained surgeons: her mom, Elaine, was a cardiothoracic surgeon and her father, Alfred, was a neurosurgeon. She was a bright child, always several years ahead of her own, eager to learn something new. By the time she was in fourth grade, her school recommended that she be put two years above her age level. It wasn’t that she was a bookworm, it was more that most things just came naturally to the young woman who was just naturally gifted, even through her second year of medical school at Harvard.
The winter she was twenty-four, she and some friends were driving up to Grimmbrook to stay with her parents for a long weekend away from school but they never made it. A drunk driver hit them, they caught ice and spun out of control, wrapping around a tree. Edith was driving and by some magic or miracle, she was not killed like her two friends. She was in the hospital for a month after the accident and rehab facilities for a month after that.Â
She ended up testifying against the drunk driver once she was out of the hospital and the entire trial was an ordeal she’d have rather not faced but knew she had to for her friends' sake and their families’ peace of mind.Â
Going back to Harvard seemed less and less likely the longer she was out of the program. She had frequent recurring headaches that bloomed into migraines for nearly a year that made studying harder. It didn’t matter how much pull her parents had at Harvard, she wasn’t cut out for it anymore. Rather than give up fully on her dream, however, Edith took a few months to apply to some other universities, closer to home, and ended up getting into Grimmbrook University’s program.Â
It was hard at first, adjusting to being home, dealing with survivors guilt even years on, and working to catch up and still do well in the medical program. Though it wasn’t nearly as easy as it might’ve been before her accident, she’s since passed all her medical exams and is in her second year of her surgical residency at the hospital.
CONNECTIONS â–¶
ISABEL DUMAS: Growing up in Grimmbrook, Isabel was her best friend. They were thicker than thieves and though Edith ended up skipping a few grades, they remained close until she went to Harvard with Edith being a fierce protector of Isabel. After her accident, Isabel was one of the few friends consistently by her side, always checking in on her which Edith appreciated more than words could say. They’re always honest with each other but Edith has yet to tell Isabel that she’s not a fan of Casper. She saw him leaving The Candy House a few months back and thought it was weird, and then she saw him buying a necklace that Isabel never got and she thinks it’s weird but she wants to be sure if he’s cheating before she says anything to Isabel.
LEON BERNARD: She and Isabel went to The Rabbit Hole’s opening a few years back and ended up chatting with Leon and his brother a good portion of the night. He's always talking about new ideas and Edith admires that. She’s been on one path for so long, she’s not sure what it would be like to switch interests so often. He doesn’t seem like the brightest crayon in the box but he’s got a good heart and is a good friend.
CHE PADILLA: They’ve been friends for a while and though she wouldn’t tell him what to do or who to work for, she thinks if you’re scared of your boss, it’s time to get a new job.
SOPHIA BERNARD-LEWIS: If Sophie’s cousin’s a bit of an idiot, she’s definitely not. They hang out sometimes and both have a big workload but Edith helps Sophia study sometimes. She knows what it’s like to work especially hard for a degree and wants to help her succeed if she can.
ELIAS CHURCH: He came into the ER with a knife wound last year– said it was a work injury but last Edith checked, there weren’t many butchers who somehow lost control of their knives to the point of being stabbed in the side. was tempted to call the police but kept silent because the supervising doctor was silent too. still thinks it’s fishy but hasn't said anything.
