Edith came to a sudden halt at the corner of the canal, now out of space to run, as the ferry continued forward and the distance between them grew. Her hands cupped over her mouth to ensure that Jean heard her: “YOU BETTER MARRY ME WHEN YOU COME HOME, JEAN KIRSTEIN!!”

Jean’s face flushed bright pink as a few people around him snickered. “WHY WOULD I DO THAT!?” He yelled back.

“YOU PROMISED!”

“I DID NOT PROMISE!!”

“THEN PROMISE RIGHT NOW!”

“NO!”
