I was out and about on yesterday, as I am always am on tuesdays, but I did watch the Direct and man it is kind of crazy that they did Duskbloods network test into Raiders Direct announcement into Deltarune chapter 5 release date reveal. That entire thing might as well have started with Koizumi saying "this next segment is for you, Lynn Fashionista." while looking straight into the camera.

Anyway, gonna do a news roundup later today because while I'm very late to it we did get some more stuff (including patch notes) announced during the night. And it wouldn't have sat right with me to just say nothing when so much stuff happened just because I was preoccupied at the time.

also quick off-topic weekend post before I go to bed: I've been really enjoying The Mountain, the new Gorillaz album that released like a week ago. Really cool mix of the band's synth-y hip-hop sound with traditional Indian instruments as the vocals ruminate on life, death, grief, and rebirth. Potentially my new favourite Gorillaz album and I don't say that lightly because Plastic Beach has been my favourite since it released in 2010.

Oh I haven't posted on here in forever. I'm still alive, sorry for disappearing for like a month!

As it turns out, me burning out on making stuff for this blog was really just a sign of the much bigger burnout that'd come to affect for me the last couple of months. I'm doing fine so don't worry about me, albeit I'm still a bit tired and demotivated.

Though just to clarify, I'm not abandoning the blog or anything, we're just in a down period at the moment, just like we were between Splatoon 2 and 3, and just like then we'll bounce back sooner or later. I still love the series deeply, it's just that I'm the kind of person whose focus ebbs and flows over time. As soon as they announce more stuff about Raiders I'll be right back into it.

Aren't we also missing like half of the third kits still? Got any predictions for when they'll release?

I think people are a bit hasty in just assuming more thirds are a guarantee, we've never had third kits for all weapons in a previous game after all. That said if any game'll be the first to do it then it'd make sense to be the Splatoon game where the number three is aesthetically and thematically relevant.

I think if we're getting more new content for Splatoon 3 at this point it'll be in connection to Raiders, be that by circumstance like when they announced Raiders and third kit at the same time last year, or more directly by theming them to the game in some way.

Been thinking about the possibility of a Splatoon 3 Switch 2 Edition again. I wrote it off initially because it wasn't in the Switch 2 Direct, but fool that I am I completely forgot that this year is going to be Splatoon's tenth anniversary, so they might be saving any announcements until then.

Though this had me thinking about what a Switch 2 upgrade pack for Splatoon 3 would even be. Performance boosts and changes to utilize the new technology they're building into the console of course, but would that be it? I can't imagine they'd lock actual new multiplayer content behind a paywall like that. It's not impossible of course, but Nintendo's clearly figured out long ago that that's not how they want to structure their paid content for their premiere multiplayer series. Splitting your players like that just isn't a good idea.

If the Switch 2 version of the game gets any exclusive content at all I think some kind of singleplayer DLC is more likely. Maybe we finally get a story focused on Deep Cut, or maybe those minor cuttlefish teases the game has here and there will finally pay off?

And of course, more multiplayer stuff is still a possibility, just unlikely to be just for the Switch 2 version. New weapons and stages would be the perfect way for Nintendo to breathe new life into the game in time for the new console and revitalize the fandom, and that's good for nintendo no matter which console people are playing on.

The one thing that makes me hesitate to call it a sure thing is that Grand Festival felt so confidently final that it'd almost be weird to keep adding stuff to the game after making that kind of statement, even if the devs didn't explicitly say it was the end. Extending Splatoon 3 is an option, but it's just as likely that the devs would rather start the new console with a clean slate.

We'll just have to wait and see, I suppose. I'm sure they'll do something for the tenth anniversary, so we've just gotta sit tight for now.

With Splatoon 3 wrapping up its updates, we'll in all likelihood see the fandom go into a bit of a lull, and that's to be expected. Even someone as obsessive as me lost interest between 2 ending and 3 getting revealed, it's why this blog was almost completely dead between 2020 and early 2022 and it's something I want to try and avoid this time around, though I am not making any promises.

But this is also relevant because a lot of what I do here is interaction-driven, with outfit requests and fashion challenges and such, and I suspect that as we head into 2025 that interaction is going to die down significantly.

With that in mind, if we ever reach a point where I stop getting submissions, or just consistently very few of them, for the fashion challenges, then I'll wrap them up with one extra big and fancy challenge. Our own little final fest of sorts, if you will. Maybe with art prizes? I'd really like that, and will do what I can, but I am not making that a promise.

As for what I do here, I've still got some of those weapon-based outfit requests to get around to, and since I've gotten so close I think I'll try and round it out and make an outfit for every weapon in the game, too. After that? I've got some ideas, but it ultimately depends on how long I can keep my interest in the game going. What I can promise is that I'll keep reposting news from the official social media accounts, and if any interesting rumors or relevant datamines pop up I'll keep y'all up to date on that too.

In the last month or so, some time before the Grand Festival, I reached 3000 followers, which while not a big number is almost double the amount I had in the Splatoon 2 era.

Followers is of course something that absolutely does not matter on this, the most cloutless social media site ever, but I really can't overstate how much it warms my heart that there's this many people interested in what I do here, because what I do here is just some of the most nerdy shit imaginable.
