Back in July I was browsing the internet and looking around on IG and came across @teacherselfcareconference and submitted a proposal for the #teacherselfcareconference for June 2019. The amount of paperwork that teachers are introduced to makes you wonder what exactly have you signed on to do. The universal screeners, individual education plans, behavior intervention plans, red tabs, discipline trackers, and parent contact logs must be in place to make sure students are receiving the right services required of teachers.  But if teachers are negligent in their duties, they are tracked by means of code of ethics violations and personnel files that are kept at the school level, that then can be turned over to the local board of education for termination issues.  It is a bit cumbersome to progress monitor behavior issues in a classroom where multiple behavior issues exist, and teachers are drowning in lesson plans and parental contact. When I received more of my headshots last night I was literally screaming in my car from excitement. Thank you so much Courtney James Watkins for helping me. I’ll just say that July was a busy month. 1. 3 “Live” Book Chats for my book: My Fourth Year in Middle School: The Truth About Teaching 2. Became a brand representative for a health and wellness company 3. Submitted a proposal for the “Teachers Self-Care Conference” on the need for teacher mentoring to help new teachers survive their first year and the 👏🏽proposal 👏🏽was 👏🏽ACCEPTED🤗Hence, the need for headshots👩🏽 I’m beginning to reap the benefits of leaping before I was ready and this is just the beginning. When I did my three part “Live” chats for my book I was nervous and was not quite sure how my efforts would be received. There was nothing I wasn’t willing to discuss about my book because the primary reason for writing it was to bring awareness to the need for strong mentors for new teachers. The content in my book stirs emotions good, laughable, and upsetting but my title lets the reader know that my book is about my experience. I was asked if I felt like my book out a target on my back. Well no, I don’t feel that way at all. So like the saying goes, the truth will set you free but at first it will upset you. Over the next few weeks I will dissect my book even more to explain why each chapter is significant as I am writing my 3rd title, 12 Ways to Survive Your First Year of Teaching.
