They were on another expedition, and since the night had fallen, most of the Scouting Legion were asleep. Fast asleep, not really, since titans could be lurking from anywhere. Although titans were less active at night, there were always aberrants that were, in fact, awake and hunting humanity. Due to that given fact, several people were appointed to keep guard at night. They were working in short shifts, so they would have some sleep at night. After all, the next day would be exhausting indeed.
Mikasa was appointed to a job like that, and though she could do this perfectly on her own, she had a comrade that would accompany her in this task. She wasn't a fan of these tasks, but since she was still a mere recruit, there was nothing to be done.
She slouched to the spot she had to watch over, and found the one who was burdened with the same task. Mikasa knew the girl from the 104th trainee squad, yet a name failed to surface. She had never been interested in others from the 104th, simply her close friends.
Mikasa nodded at the girl as a 'hello', and began watching the darkening area. She could see the experienced soldiers riding around the area, yet those were veterans. Soon, they would retreat and go to bed, and Mikasa and the other girl would be the only ones to raise alarm if an aberrant should close in.
