is it just me or is wikipedia just. wholly illegible? I can barely parse an articles intro much less read the whole thing.
and it's not just the dense academic wording, I don't usually struggle with that too much on its own, it's when it's mixed with everything else that makes the site hard to read:
high contrast in the opposite way than I need (I usually use darkmode themes)
walls of text
distracting (though admittedly highly useful) elements within the text such as citations and pronunciations that are often blue or purple, the only color on the screen not including pictures
tiny font that for some reason does not adapt to device or browser settings
it might just partially be my own brain and adhd making things difficult for me, but it also is a symptom of academic inaccessibility and the fact that academic sources make it hard if not impossible for people who aren't able to conform to the set standards (read: neurodivergent people, disabled people, people with substandard education access, etc.) able to access the information they need on any given topic.
and I know talking about anything to do with education/academics and accessibility on this site is like taking a shower in lighter fluid and going for a smoke, but I know I'm not alone in this (no matter what this posts first sentence might suggest) and I guess the first step in solving a problem is letting other people know there's a problem
