What & How Educational Technolgy can Help Teachers’ Ways and Strategies in Teaching?: A Narrative Report
Last January 24, 2017, we, the Bachelor of Secondary Education II – Major in Mathematics had the discussion about “Triangle Inequality Theorem” at the Physics Lab of the College Building. Mrs. Jennifer A. Reyes, our instructor, used laptop and projector in presenting the topic. Likewise, she used a PowerPoint presentation so we could see and vividly understand the topic. As Mrs. Reyes was discussing the lesson, she presented some slides which contained the visual representation of the concepts. But not everything is included in her presentation. Just like the proving of the theorem and other figures, she wrote such in the blackboard. She made sure that all the statements and their reasons for proving such theorem were written in the board. Afterwards, she assessed us if we had understood the lesson through giving some sort of exercises.
According to Mrs. Reyes, educational technology can help her ways and strategies in teaching by means of improving the delivery of lessons and providing specific instructional plans based on individual student needs. It can also deepen student learning by supporting instructional objectives. Presentation software, such as PowerPoint, enables us to embed high-resolution photographs, diagrams, videos and sound files to augment text and verbal lecture content.
Based on my personal experience, our instructor in one of our major subjects, which has a course description of “Solid and Plane Geometry,” was always trying to give her best and to exert much effort for us to be able to understand each topic included in the subject. As a future educator, the integration of using the modern technology in teaching and in learning will surely help me in inculcating the necessary knowledge and skills that my students will need in order to survive.
