Welcome to the World of EduKayoSLaag
Have you ever felt like you were living two completely different lives? For me, that duality is exactly what keeps me grounded—and it’s the inspiration behind the name of this blog: EduKayoSLaag.
At first glance, it might look like a mouthful, but every syllable carries a piece of who I am. Whether I’m standing in front of a classroom at PHINMA Cagayan de Oro College or standing on the peak of a mountain at sunrise, this name covers the ground I walk on.
The "Edu": Coding the Future
The journey starts with Edu. By profession, I am a College Instructor under the Department of Information Technology Education. My weekdays are filled with logic, syntax, and the vibrant energy of the PHINMA COC campus.
Being an IT educator is about more than just teaching students how to build apps or manage databases; it’s about navigating the fast-paced life of academia in the Philippines. In this blog, I’ll be taking you behind the scenes of the IT department, sharing insights into tech education, and reflecting on the rewarding (and sometimes chaotic) life of a mentor in the digital age.
The "Kayo": Keeping the Fire Burning
The middle of my name, Kayo, is a shortened version of the Cebuano word Kalayo, which means "fire." I’ve always believed that whether you are debugging a complex program or training for a race, you need a certain spark to keep going.
This represents the passion and the "burn" I feel for my craft. It’s the energy that fuels those late-night grading sessions and the grit required to push through the final kilometer of a trail. Without that inner kalayo, the work would just be work. Here, I hope to share that same fire with you.
The "Laag": Finding Peace on the Trail
Finally, we have Laag. If you’re from the Visayas or Mindanao, you know that laag is more than just "going out"—it’s an adventure. It’s the soul’s way of recharging.
When the laptop closes and the weekend begins, you won’t find me indoors. I am a firm believer in the "outdoor life," whether that’s mountain trekking, hiking, or trail running. There is a unique clarity that comes with being on a trail, far away from the blue light of computer screens. Laag is my balance; it’s where I find the breath of fresh air needed to return to the classroom with a clear mind.
