in my opinion, jack phillips is the biggest hero of the titanic sinking, because not only did he fix the malfunctioning marconi transmitter, he is responsible for saving 712 survivors of the disaster after the ship sank.
this is ironic because the officers on deck did not respect the marconi operators because they were not sailors or seamen. charles lightoller refused to call the ice message from the operators a warning, it was a message delivered from harold bride to captain smith. the only officer that seemed to understand the importance of the marconi operators was captain smith, who was the only officer to reach out to them for a distress call. harold bride is also reportedly the last person to see william mcmaster murdoch alive, due to helping the other officers unload lifeboats at 2 AM.
