I don’t usually post things like this as I don’t advertise any of the more creative things I do on tumblr. In fact, I hardly use it for anything but watching some real funny and smart people and occasionally re-blogging something with tags with either/or a funny comment or tag. But, most of the time I do nothing.

This time I thought I’d try showing some of the things I make,although my main thing is writing I also dabble in music and digital art. So, I thought I would share the time I made a flag for a friends fictional D&D nation. He said he wanted a phoenix and the colours purple, gold, and white and left the rest for me. I ended up making up a cross for the religion of his nation as well by making a not too different edit of a patriarchal cross since this nation if I recall is lead by an angel.

Each flag has two variations, a full and cut version, the cut version is more or less a banner version design.

The first attempt is here, I call it the swishy one. While I liked the crest with the phoenix and wreath, My friend felt the shield’s background was somewhat dull, you may also notice one of the flags the smaller crosses are less even then on the other. This was a mistake on my part but I never fixed them as this flag design was not chosen.

The second version I really liked, since it look good in both normal and cut. Also instead of a wreath I decided to do olive branches cause its a peaceful nation. My friends complaints were nothing really, I suppose it was fine but didn’t jump out for him. To me, I think the multi colouring of the cross is slightly off putting and yet I don’t feel like I could make it look nice as a single colour.

The third one I like the very least, I was very tired and it was late when I worked on it. Of course my friend also did not like this one, however he did like a lot of aspects of it which he asked I use in my next attempt, he picked a few things he liked from previous ones and I finally made the one he went with and loved, which I also thing turned out really nice.

The final flag here is the one he went with, I think it looks perhaps the most realistic of them all, as in a real nation could be using such a flag. Another difference is this flag does not have a cut version since he didn’t want one so I never got around to doing it. And so, ends the saga of my friends flag, it was a bit of a challenge but I certainly loved taking it on. I think I made a few good pieces and learned a few things from doing it.
