Oswald had no idea what he should have been doing. Normally, he would have had breakfast, and then asked his Chief of Staff what was scheduled for the day, but he didn’t have a Chief of Staff. He had fired him. So Oswald was caught in a horrid limbo until Ed arrived, and they could discuss what his role would be, now that they were partners.
I was going to propose that we become partners. Business partners. Oswald sat at the head of the table, where he usually conducted criminal meetings, and looked down at the contracts which Ed had handed him to sign, just prior to his resignation. He had already signed them, and there was nothing to gain from looking at them again, but he wanted to appear busy when Ed arrived.
