Thank you to eebuki, mantyked, and kawaiitentaclesex and anyone who reblogged it after for the promos!!
(And to eebuki, my birthday is soon not today, but in four days!)
Are you ok?
HUH YA WHY WOULDNT I BE
Yeah totally!!! But also I think it would be wrong to accuse someone of culturally appropriating Buddhism just because they're white if they were practicing it. I think there's a lot of misconceptions about certain cultural aspects, like dreadlocks, which didn't originally stem from the Rastafarians but from North Africans, Greeks, and Vikings!
I think a lot about this tbh, I'm yet to come to a conclusion to this. I think I'll have to discuss this with people of different cultures a lot to find an answer, cause I have too little experience to do it with my thoughts and my reading alone. "I feel like we live in this weird zone where because of the internet everything is being appropriated without context and it can result in really original and diverse art. but it also seems to result in uninformed and therefore disrespectful things." singer Grimes posted this on being called out for wearing a bindi, I recommend you read the whole ~post~
i totally agree with you like, i'm learning about buddhism but before that i had no clue what the symbols of the chakras or what klesha's were but it's all really interesting! i think it's really important to learn about different cultures (i plan on majoring in foreign language and culture!) and that if a person wants to learn about a culture and does educate themselves it's okay to use those symbols so long as they know what they mean
that's really cool that you're studying different cultures!! i don't know about if you can use the symbols if you know what they mean though? maybe? i don't know, i'm white so i can't really tell. if i were to use something from another culture bc i know what it means and i got called out on it by someone of that culture i would totally stop tho, it's not really up to us to decide if we can or not.
eebuki? haha
