not to be a salt factory but it bugs me that people pin that one line "my dear corvo" as the reason corvosider is super canon and they are both obvious gays. Because one, he doesn't even -say- this in the game, it's literally only in the trailer (and everyone knows trailers are like not really canon) and like the woman at my local grocery store calls everyone honey and dear, does she secretly wanna bang us all? gAH
… Alright… I’mma be the salt factory for you… because I’m immortal and anon hate fuels me anyway. I’m basically Granny Rags, but I take my life essence from the petty, impotent rage of others.
If this line sounds at all serious, loving or fluffy to you, I am interested to know what upbringing you had and how you acquired language as a child without acquiring any understanding of vocal tone.
Knowing that Harvey said some of his lines are difficult-to-detect sarcasm, I’d say this one was pretty freaking overt sarcasm. He sounds like me addressing that one guy in my friend group who I recently described as the personification of mansplaining. That’s not a voice that contains even a hint of warmth or sincerity. That’s the voice of an Outsider who’s thinking something along the lines of
If anything, he sounds motivated by a quiet anger and it’s coming out as a kind of semi grotesque enthusiasm. Which seems pretty realistic, given that he’s just watched his least favourite marked man kill an empress. If somebody wants to re-write the line for their fic purposes, that’s one thing, they’re not banned from fun. But insisting that the line itself, as it is in the trailer, is proof of anything is just. delusional. It’s willful ignorance. All problems like ship wars and all that bullshit would be solved by fandom participants making the decision to not act like spoiled babies and accept that we all have different aspects of the game we enjoy. And that no one is more important or valid than anyone else. Besides canon. That’s important and valid. Because in case anyone managed to overlook this fact: you’d have nothing to throw your toys out of the pram over if Arkane’s narrative team hadn’t blessed you with the source material.
Edit: I just realised what his tone reminds me of.
“But you don’t want my mark, do you Billie? So I will return something you lost.”
It’s the same sarcastic sympathy. Based on the logic we were talking about, I guess Billie x Outsider is canon now too, huh?
