Tumblr user @edrord / @effward Nana has had a history of being in the fma fandom, and with in the year she has created this “insanity au” under the premise of rping darker topics. On her archives verse page( she just moved blogs ) Nana lists the symptoms and causes as to WHY her Edward suffers from schizophrenia. Even in her about, she uses ableistic language.
Let it be known that yes, I did try & contact her, to which she blocked me.
Hey Nana ! Nice to see you back, in that time you were gone I had HOPED you had dropped that terrible albeist au you have, but seeing as your continuing it, I'm going to have to intervene. Take this as a warning, stop rping the "insanity au." Take this from someone who has trouble differentiating reality from dreams, from someone who has such bad nightmares i scratch myself. Take this from real abuse victims, to stop. Your not shedding light on the issue, but only encouraging the terrible stigma of the mentally ill. Stop rping the au, and we won't have an issue..
AU where Al dies in the middle of the journey to get his body back. That’s it. There was no heroic sacrifices- no parting words. It ended as quickly as it had began- Al’s seal was practically ripped to shreds- And Ed didn’t even see it happen. They had been separated for but a brief moment— he was overpowered. Ed never thought it would happen like this— Death is unexpected. Life’s not fair.
They never got to complete their journey, Ed never got his limbs back. Now Al’s soul as well as body is lost to him forever.
There was no happily ever after.
This AU depicts Ed’s loss and agony over the loss of his brother and a slow descent into madness. He hears voices, sees visions- his nightmares are much more frequent and he often times finds himself going into states of shock and mental breakdowns.
The timeline in this AU is very tweakable— my default timeline has Al dying when Ed was around the age of 16. However, this AU fasts forward a few years— age 18, after he has had plenty of time to for his mind to fester and his condition to worsen.
This is also an AU in which Father has not yet been stopped and the plan for Ed to act as a sacrifice is still in motion– and Ed does not really care anymore. He doesn’t have any desire to fight or stop them anymore– when the time comes, he will be taken, and he will go peacefully. Perhaps he will even be thankful.
This AU will contain heavy triggers such as self-harm, potential thoughts of suicide, and drug usage. ALL triggers will be tagged accordingly.
Things to note in this verse:
-Ed has schizophrenia in this verse, in case that wasn’t clear enough. If you are unfamiliar with the symptoms of schizophrenia, please check this out.
-He constantly has trouble determining real from unreal—and he can get violent in this verse.
-However, because his brain is so jumbled and he is unable to focus, his ability to use Alchemy is minimal, if there’s any at all. Alchemy requires intense focus, and it’s really hard to do that with schizophrenia. If it really comes to the point where he wants to harm you, he will most likely use objects around him—such as broken glass etc.
-In most default cases, this verse will take place in one specific location in which Ed has ran away and found a dark and abandoned building and has holed himself up there. There can also be some cases in which Ed is placed in a mental institute, but for the most part, he does not go out often. He hates sunlight and is terrified of going outside except to scavenge so—yeah.

Nana says she knows the topic but still consistently uses extremely harmful language, and even to the point of rping actual rape in this verse, to which she just tags with “sexual assault.”

Anonymous:Censorship is gross, but so is warping something like incest/pedophilia into something romanticized is just as gross. Not saying that you necessarily do this, but the main thing is that people want those who have suffered incest, pedophilia, rape, etc., to be honored by not making these things okay to do in the end. Tagging things is a definite yes, but for those people who read your rps, the content matters as well. Again, not saying you necessarily do this, but my interpretation.

Anonymous:Isn't the title 'Insanity AU' kind of ableist? I don't want to ruin your fun and I'm sorry I sound like some oversensitive anon, but I'm just worried because mental illness is a topic to be thoroughly researched and understood before representing/writing, you know?
hi anon! i understand your concern, and i do realize that schizophrenia can be a delicate topic to write about. I have taken very careful steps and measures to do my part and research a lot about schizophrenia in hopes that I wont offend anyone or that it wont come off the wrong way.
my goal here when writing in this AU is not to make or poke fun of people with schizophrenia at all— I want to portray a genuine understanding about it. I want to portray that anyone can get it, even our best of heroes, and I hope I don’t come off as portraying things like this in a positive manner when writing about it. I very much had planned to do the exact opposite.
Schizophrenia is disease that is often times misunderstood by people today— it’s romanticized, put in a light to make it seem like it’s just the “dark side“ of a character, and much more that makes the billboard representation of it a little skewed by what it actually is.
Schizophrenia is actually a very ugly thing, and the fact that my character undergoes it is a legitimate mental response he has to his brother’s death.
My other goal with this verse was to shine a little bit of light on how poorly the mentally handicapped were treated back in the day— this is a little more relevant to the 1800s, but as a lot of people know a lot of people with Schizophrenia and other mental diseases were not given the proper care they deserved, and I thought it would be interesting to delve into this topic a little more.

How many times do you have to be told that what your rping is reality for some, and something you can just toss around as a cool au ? Are you literally stating, that even if someone told you to fucking stop, you would still continue because its ?? interesting? Rape must be awfully fucking interesting to you considering how many times it shows up on your blog. Are you proud Nana that you made people with real mental illiness, even schizophrenia enraged and disgusted all because its some edgy au for you ?? Are you happy ??
