After spending the majority of the day exploring the town of Lennox, Thalra slowly made her way towards the lower west side of the city, where she knew Efrain to keep a quieter, cottage residence. That was just like him really, as she couldn’t imagine him finding happiness in a busy city square. But as she passed the small gardens filled with flowers, she couldn’t help but compare it to the rolling green hills and yawning forests of their childhood. It seemed tame here, nearly artificial when held against the untamed nature of the outskirts of Stillrest.
She carried a potted plant in her arms, the twin stalks of it spiraling up from the soil in thin, wide swirls that were nearly like bamboo, before ending in heavy, dark green bulbs. In the moonlight, the bulbs would open into brilliant purple and pink flowers which she hoped would remind Efrain of her and Nil when she wasn’t here to remind him herself. The house-warming gift nearly obscured her eyesight as she walked down the cobblestone path to Efrain’s front door, so she shifted it up onto one of her hips as she reached out to the brass knocker and wrapped it three times. Then, she quickly placed the plant down in front of the door and scampered away to the side of the building, her heels sinking slightly into the damp grass.
Peeking around the edge of the cottage, she listened for the door to open, fully prepared to scare her friend and savor any yelp of surprise he might make.
