I randomly just thought of Ryland sitting on the couch in his mom’s old house, balancing y’all’s 10 or so month old baby on his palms as they stand on his hands and hold onto the top of his head for support

oh my god. oh my god. the baby is constantly trying to grab his hair and/or glasses, and every time he goes "hey" in a fake-upset voice and then blows a raspberry into the baby's stomach to make them giggle.

They’d better have a daughter, because despite teenage Ryland and when he was in his early twenties, I know deep in my heart— nay, in my pure soul, that he is a girl dad without any doubt

god, i want girl dad Ryland Grace so bad it's diabolical. he is so so gentle and tender and constantly Stressed about that little girl (in no small part because he cannot help but see a little bit of you every time he looks at her)

the first time he meets your daughter in the hospital, he is scared to even hold her. and you have to be like "Ryland. she is a baby, not a porcelain doll. you have to be able to hold our child." and ofc he gets over it, and from the second he picks her up that child is basically never being put down again.

(and i hate the stereotype of "having a daughter as karma for a man who wasn't the best in his twenties" but also. it is SO his karma. the second she's old enough to start dating, he is genuinely considering calling Colt to get his hands on a prop gun)

I assign you the couch in your apartment!

He comes over late at night after you’re already showered/in pajamas/preparing to binge watch a bad Netflix documentary, carrying two pints of ice cream in a plastic drugstore bag. The night starts with the two of you sitting cross-legged, eating the ice cream straight from the container, and ends with you getting fucked prone, still wearing your oversized sleep shirt, your moans barely muffled by the couch cushions, the ice cream forgotten and melting on the coffee table.

It’s the only time you hook up at your place. This thing you have with Ryland is temporary by design; by your design. You don’t want to fill your apartment with memories of him. You don’t want to constantly be tiptoeing around the ghost of him when he’s gone.

I assign you the front seat of Ryland's car!

It's so hot and also a disaster. You guys pick the driver's seat instead of the passenger seat; maybe because he had been driving, and had done the thing guys do where they put their hand on your seat while they look back to pull out of a spot, and you (ovulating) basically climbed into his lap as soon as you were stopped somewhere private enough. He forgets to turn off the engine at first, and scares the living daylights out of you both when his foot hits the gas pedal (the car is in park, so it's fine, but LOUD). It also takes a few tries to be able to move without accidentally bumping up against the horn. But his hands are hot on your hips, and he's whimpering into the side of your head, and you don't even bother taking your underwear off—you just pull it to the side so that he can press up into you. You hit your head on the ceiling at least once.

I assign you Prom Night! (again again) (au prom night where, like, five things went differently)

He drives you back to his house, the both of you a little giddy with music and kissing, but instead of letting you go to the spare room he tugs you into his room just next door. He gives you one of his shirts and sweatpants to wear, and turns around while you change, and then pulls you into the bottom bunk with him, and you make out for a while longer (his shirt comes off, you stay fully clothed) before falling asleep with your legs tangled up and your head on his chest.

I assign you the bar after trivia!

It's the day after you slept together for the first time, and there are one or two places on your hip that are slightly bruised from how hard he held onto you the day before. He is distraught. You are thrilled; you guide his hands over the marks, and squeeze your hands over his, assuring him you like it, showing him how perfectly they line up, and it must set off something in him, because now he's got you sitting on the sink and has to keep a hand wrapped around the back of your head to keep you from hitting the mirror with how hard he's thrusting into you. You know it's probably just some hormonal instinct he's having, but there's a tiny part of you that indulges in the fantasy that it's a sign that he is being possessive about you in particular.

god this makes me wish so badly that i had room in the fic for them to take a trip somewhere. maybe in an epilogue or something. but anyway...

On the beach, on one of the blankets from the car. It's so late at night that you aren't really worried about being caught; purple sky, ocean sound, slow kisses, slow hands, slow everything. When he presses into you for the first time, gentle, you whimper, and he swallows the sound.

Afterwards, neither of you will be able to agree on whose idea this was; it is the riskiest place you have hooked up by far. But you can't deny that it does something to the heat between your legs to hear him struggle to be quiet. His moans and whimpers are so soft, so choked-back, that you feel them, more than hear them, where he has his face pressed into your shoulder. (Not that you're any better; you have to get him to put a hand over your mouth, and you very narrowly resist the urge to suck on his fingers)
