“You gonna stand there all night or are you gonna come say hello?” 

          Against all advisement and insistence otherwise, Johanna was siting straight up in her bed, she’d ripped off the oxygen tube so many times the nurses had given up administering it. It lay limp over the side of her bed. She drew in a shaky breath. It hurt to b r e a t h e too deep, she wasn’t really conscious when they went over her itinerary of medical maladies. Once she had enough air in her lungs she gasped up and finally got out what she wanted to say:

“Either come say Hi or hit the road, Abernathy.”
