the door to her office opens and she’s startled by it even though she’s fixated on her computer screen. IT’S PAST MIDNIGHT, she sent jess home hours ago and the guards at the main door never come up to her floor unless there’s an emergency like an earthquake or a fire but THE CITY IS SILENT, the night is dark. nothing seems to be out of place, so when she raises her gaze and sees him her blood runs cold. it’s a mixture of emotions: fear, anger, desperation and confusion, she closes her laptop but doesn’t move, her body doesn’t respond. ❝ you’re in jail. ❞ she says as if he’s not standing there, arms crossed over his chest, looking at her with indifference. she must be dreaming.
