In the fall of 2007 I filmed Imelda O'Reilly's "Bricks, Beds & Sheep's Heads", a short film about about the Eid al Kabir as it is celebrated in Morocco. We were living in the Fez Medina and filmed some of our neighbors as they prepared for this holiest of days. In the middle of the shoot we spent 8 hours at the haili soul interviewing farmers and merchants as they bought and sold the sheep that would be sacrificed. For much of that day we were followed around by this girl and her younger brother. As we finished getting the last bit of b roll that we needed, we decided to interview her. As with all the interviews we did for that shoot, she told us of the joy, warmth and generousity that she felt about her religion and this particular feast day. Had we accepted half of the home cooked meals that we were offered by everyone we interviewed, we could have eaten at a different home with a different family for the next six months. Coincidently, six month is actually how long it took to finish the edit. ++ November 2007 #EidAlKabir #Morocco #BricksBedsAndSheepsHeads #Fez #FezMedina #Medina #HauliSouk #Ramadan #IslamicHoliday #Feast Bricks, Beds & Sheep's Heads http://vimeo.com/28441176 (at Medina, Fès, Morocco)
