Ahh thank you for responding, I cannot wait a single moment more for the grand conclusion of KnB I'm not ready... Do you know if it will be the true final chapter? Or if there will be a few follow up chapters? If you don't know that's ok ~
There will definitely be at least follow up chapters. Katekyo Hitman Reborn! announced it would be ending far ahead of time and gave plenty of chapters to wrap things up.
I am totally not ready for the ending of KnB. And neither is the series itself. There are still several conflicts to be resolved. Akashi can’t dribble his demons away. Ogiwara can’t just make a deus ex machina appearance when a match against him was Kuroko’s original motivation to play basketball. Why would Nijimura meet Himuro and Alex in America if he no longer mattered to the story?
Even if KnB in its current form ends, we should expect more. Fujimaki has pondered reuniting the GoM and an international competition as well as trying other sports mangas. Maybe he will take a break and write something else. But we can always look for expys of our faves and watch Fujimaki grow as a writer.
KnB was the third-highest selling manga of 2013 beating Magi, Naruto, Fairy Tail, Bleach, and being doubled by SnK and curbed stomped by One Piece (but is that really a shock?). Now that the vicious anti-fan has been arrested, KnB DVDs are selling like hotcakes. There was even a separate Kuroko event called Kuroket to make up for its absence at Comiket due to the anti fan. One could even say his actions drew MORE attention to the series. Why would anyone in their right mind drop a cash cow like this while it’s still hot? Like any good popular series, you’ve got to milk that cow until it is a ghost of its former self and no one cares anymore (SPONGEBOB). The third season of the anime is in production right now and could air early 2015. I don’t know if it will be able to finish the Winter Cup. It has Kaijou vs. Haizaki, Rakuzan vs. Shuutoku, Seirin vs Kaijou, and the Teikou Arc to cover before the finals. And it would be awkward to leave a 1+ year gap in the middle of the finals! right? That means we could get a season four. The finals can’t last a whole season, though *knocks on woods*, so we need more from the manga or an AU from the anime. That could still tie in to a possible sequel.
Now what could we get from the sequel? Hopefully a time skip. I love the side characters dearly. But everyone’s special ability has been revealed. The third years would leave a gap (Kise only seemed to bond with Kasamatsu, what would Akashi do without a phantom sixth man even though Mayuzumi is finished storytelling-wise), there aren’t always suitable second years (HAYAKAWA AS CAPTAIN JUST THINK ABOUT HOW BAD THAT WOULD BE), and the first years. The first years would divert attention from our main cast and would have to have improbable worfing powers to provide any drama. Do we really want to watch another Interhigh and Winter Cup? High school is a great platform for shounen, but the series would exhaust itself on another year.
We want a reunited GoM in college, facing off against top players from all over the world. This gives everyone a chance to develop new abilities, new conflicts, new totally attractive adult appearances, etc. Maybe Fujimaki could find a way to keep the more popular side characters like Takao, Kasamatsu, and Himuro around because they are very important to their main character’s development and fan girl shipping. New characters wouldn’t feel so forced like first years. We can see even more teams and styles of basketball. And if everyone crosses their fingers, flashback characters like Nijimura and Ogiwara could provide support and the screen time they deserve (Nijimura is the eleventh popular character do you seriously think the fandom is satisfied with all .00001 chapters of his screen time I think not). A new tournament, conflicts with future careers post basket ball, Kagami’s past in America… think of the possibilities!
