This week we were tasked with applying the image adjustment techniques that we had learnt to 4 images of our own choice, 2 of these images had to be black and white, and 2 had to be of colour. I chose a wide variety of images to patch up and I believe I did so well.

The hardest part about adjusting these images was when I had to get the colour balance correct to make sure that all the features in the photo would stand out. In reality a lot of these images were just very dark, so playing with the curves for a bit made a lot of difference.

I was rather confident when given this task as I knew my colour correction/grading skills were proficient enough to complete the task at hand, despite learning all I currently know about colour correction that same day.

Religious faith shouldn't be exploited as a political asset

Democrats are comfortable talking about their religious beliefs, but shouldn't use them for political gain.

Religion is often only lightly referred to in political events, but the majority of presidential candidates are noticeably Christian. Why must that be true? 

Nancy LeTourneau explains in an April 2019 article titled “Religious Faith Shouldn’t Be Exploited as a Political Asset” that a common trend in todays politics is that political figures are restricted from discussing religion affiliation. This is largely due to religion being considered a personal matter. LeTourneau explains how presidential candidate Pete Buttigeig has recently received an excessive amount of praise for opening speaking about his Christian faith. Buttigeig has gained a lot of attention for speaking about his beliefs because it is so uncommon in politics. However, Letourneau believes that religion has never actually left political grounds. Barack Obama would frequently discuss his Christian beliefs in public events and would quote the Bible in his speeches, and Hilary Clinton was no different. LeTourneau predicts that in American politics, discussing religion is not supported, but claiming oneself as a Christian is often used as an asset to gain political clout because it is the most popular religion in the country. In conclusion, the author does not necessarily believe that the use of faith as an asset is a bad thing and should not be disapproved from politics. 

As we learned in lecture, the religious views of political elites are important because it can shape the views and beliefs of their followers. I decided to speak about this article because it clearly shows the significance of religion in politics. Many political candidates openly talk about their religious beliefs, especially if they are Christian, because it is favored by a large majority of the American population. I feel that the people are more likely to support an individual for the presidency if they follow the dame religion and therefore can advise policies that favor their beliefs. these will in turn, effect the lives of all Americans.

The impact of self-publishing

Although things may seem slow in the world of authors and self-publishing, it is actually making quite an impact on the book world today.

According to Scott Pack, a publisher who was interviewed for an article on www.ft.com, the publishing landscape has changed.

The biggest producer of self-publishing books is Amazon and their wide selection of novels in their virtual bookstore.

According to the article, “It allows authors to publish digital and physical titles, and to record audiobooks to be distributed on its platform, Audible.”

A statistic on the article claims, “40% percent of author royalties generated by ebooks on Amazon accounted for by self-published works.”

“Amazon is using self-publishing as a bludgeon to pummel publishers,” says Mark Coker, founder of rival platform Smashwords, which has also felt the effects of competing with the technology group. “For Amazon to succeed . . . it doesn’t need to take away 100 per cent of publishers’ revenues. If it can take away 10-20 per cent, it undermines their business model.” (Quoted directly from the article.)
