"Monsters in the Making" OCs:

Whumpee (Umi Lai):

-Umi is a 15-year-old Chinese-Norwegian girl who used to live in a relatively safe commune with friends and family. It was far away from the civil wars that plagued Eivor's county and had little to no diseases thanks to the skilled medics who lived there. She was a creative and curious, albeit impulsive child who got bored easily and often sought adventure like the ones she read about in fairytales. However, her parents were overprotective and didn't want her sneaking out of the commune due to the dangers outside (illness, marauders, wild animals, etc.) However, Umi ignored these warnings and snuck outside one night anyway; a heedless action that eventually led to her death.

-She died due to encountering and accidentally angering a bull elk during mating season. As she had no knowledge of how to calm it due to her sheltered upbringing, Umi was forced to run for her life and jump from a cliff into a body of water when it cornered her. Her shoelaces got caught on some rocks and although she managed to kick off her shoes, she lost consciousness before she reached the surface and died shortly thereafter.

-Umi's body washed up on the shore of another county and was found by Eivor, who proceeded to revive her by replacing Umi's heart with a strange device. This turned Umi into a zombie. Her body was initially extremely weak and Umi could barely do anything without Eivor's help. Due to Umi being unable to do much, Eivor spent the first few weeks after Umi's resurrection experimenting on her and testing her pain limits/regenerative abilities.

-Becoming a zombie had various side effects for Umi. She became essentially immortal; able to remove body parts and reattach them at will, her sense of smell/sight improved, but she also became unable to eat normal food. Instead, she developed a ravenous taste for human flesh. If Umi didn't eat, it would cause extreme pain and aggression, as well as other symptoms similar to that of withdrawal from drugs.

-After Umi's mobility improved, Eivor started training her to become a child soldier, though she claimed the lessons were to make sure Umi was strong enough to make it out there if she were to set her free. That people would not take kindly to her being a zombie. Eivor also stated that if Umi beat her, she was free to go. The trainings were very brutal and whenever Eivor defeated Umi, she would kill her in different ways. Eivor didn't care for Umi's pain and told her pain didn't matter as long as she could still fight.

-As time went on, Umi was forced to do a lot of morally unjust things in order to survive or avoid pain, which included hurting, killing and eating people. She eventually developed an internal conflict; was she really the real Umi, or just what was left behind after she died? Was the zombie she was now an entirely different person just mimicking Umi? After all, Umi the human would never have done these horrible things, right?

-Umi also got unhealthily attached to Eivor over time. Although in the early stages she was determined to escape and constantly tried to at any opportunity she got, Umi eventually realized Eivor was probably the only person who truly accepted her. Even though it was her fault Umi was in this position. Eivor looked upon Umi's zombified state with fascination instead of disgust. She understood Umi's body better than Umi did and knew how to accommodate her urges (such as the hunger for human flesh) without judging her. She hurt and pushed Umi to her limits, but surely that was just because she cared, right? She knew Umi's potential and wanted her to be the best she could be. Not to mention, Umi had killed and eaten people (not just because Eivor forced her to, but also out of desperation). Would her family back in her old commune even accept someone like that?

ADDITIONAL FACTS:

-Umi used to live in a lighthouse and loves marine life, especially jellyfish. Knows a lot of fun facts about them.

-Had a huge sweet tooth as a human and wanted to be a baker. Turning into a zombie and being unable to eat desserts anymore has negatively affected her more than it should.

-Was one of the "cool, older kids" who told scary stories to the neighbourhood kids around the campfire despite their parents objecting to it. Loved dressing up as a monster to scare them as well

-When Eivor made the device used to resurrect Umi, she attached a tiny electric piece to it, which electrocutes Umi whenever Eivor presses the button on a remote. Umi found out about this the hard way, as it thwarted one of her earliest escape attempts

-As a baby, Umi cried constantly and was only ever soothed by the sound of rushing water, which is why her mom named her "Umi", which means "ocean"

Whumper (Eivor Fure):

-Backstory: Eivor is a 23-year-old Gambian-Norwegian woman who was infected by something called the "Atom Sickness" at a young age. Symptoms included throwing up black goo, aging faster and having your eyesight and mobility worsen over time. In Eivor's faction, becoming a soldier was the primary expectation, as they were in the middle of a civil war with another faction. Children were trained to become soldiers from the age of 8. However, due to Eivor's sickness, she became an outcast as she was unfit to work as a soldier. Other kids either ignored her due to lack of relatability or bullied her due to jealousy that Eivor didn't have to work as hard.

-Eivor's parents were extremely poor. Becoming a soldier meant the family would receive a hefty sum of money, but because Eivor was unable to, her parents had to work hard to spend money on medicaments for her instead. As such, they viewed her as a burden and often voiced their disappointment to her. Despite taking care of her basic physical needs, they gave very little emotional comfort, which influenced Eivor's emotional awkwardness as an adult. Eivor eventually started working as a medic, though it had low pay and was looked down upon.

-Eivor's inferiority complex eventually led her to leave the faction and find other methods to support her faction and aid them in the civil war. Hence why she eventually decided to revive Umi; to make an immortal soldier who could take down the faction. Umi is like the prototype; if she's a success, Eivor plans on making other zombies to create a whole undead army.

-Personality-wise, Eivor is an intelligent, socially awkward, blunt, morbidly curious and ruthless individual. She has an utilitarian worldview, is extremely ambitious and power-hungry (as a result of constantly having been looked down upon by others). Although physically weaker than most, she uses stealth and manipulation to achieve her goals. Eivor is usually calm, but has a tendency to ramble and info-dump when something excites her, such as anatomy (usually while experimenting on Umi).

ADDITIONAL FACTS:

-Her parents occasionally hit her as a child. This led to Eivor associating violence with affection since the beatings were some of the only times she felt her parents saw her as an equal who could "take it", and not just a fragile, sick child.

-She has a horse named Butterscotch who she genuinely loves and treats extremely well. Umi is jealous of it.

-Has a bunch of scars on her arms from experimenting with poisons

-Has a really boring diet and really only consumes black coffee and bread. OCCASIONALLY meat from animals she can catch in snares. Embarrassed that she can't hunt as well as most people.

-Likes to sing and play chess
