"Quite Me" for Reina
It smelt so sterile in here and JC bit her cuticles nervously. When she got the word that Aleyda was hurt it came too soon after hearing her Mother was dead. Her teenage brain couldn’t regulate what was going on at home, but she knew she had to be here for her friend. She didn’t know what to say or do, she had known that they were at war. Whatever that meant, but the day before her and Aleyda had bee taking personality quizzes on which celebrity was their perfect prom date.
The door to her hospital room opened and JC shot up looking nervously at the person who exited. Reina looked bad. She wore the same looked that Jackson had on when she first saw him. Maybe that is just what it looked like to know you had just inherited a child at eighteen. Walking over to her cautiously JC took her hand. Not having any idea what to say.
“Hey JC, how you holding up?” Reina’s voice was hiccuping through sobs trying not show her upset. But it wasn’t a very good lie.
“I’m fine.” JC said shortly, not wanting to unload any of her grief on the other woman when she was clearly suffering. “How-” JC stopped and thought about not asking, but she had to know. “How is she?”
“Ah- not good Jess.” The tears were rolling down Reina’s cheeks now. JC had never seen Reina like this. She had always been so strong. JC stared at her for a long moment and took in those words. Without a word she wrapped her arms around Reina’s shoulders and pulled her into a hug.
