Who: Jared and Genevieve Location: Padalecki house and hospital Summary: The birth of their baby girl When: 1/4/2015 Words: 10,565
Jared It had been a fairly normal day. Jared had woken up long before his wife did and had spent the best part of the morning taking care of their two little boys on his own; which he didn't mind at all. He grabbed his guitar out of its case and was strumming along happily with Tom when Shep came running at him, jumping in his lap and holding onto the fret board with a smile. Jared chuckled, rolling his eyes as he discarded the guitar to the side and started to roll around with Shep, thankful that he was big enough for him to wrestle with now without Gen totally freaking out at him. "I'm sorry, baby." He smiled sympathetically at his wife as he watched her struggle down the stairs, her stomach bigger than he'd ever seen it before. It couldn't ever remember her being this big or this uncomfortable with either of their boys. He grabed Shep when he tried to make a dash for her, knowinghis wife had been struggling with being pregnant, especially today, and nothing he seemed to do helping to make her comfortable at all. "Let's just let mommy have a chill day, eh?" Jared suggested softly, kissing the side of his youngest sons head as he continued to mess around with him. Tom wrapped his arms around Jared's neck from behind, clearly having none of this being left out business. They couldn't have been messing around for more than ten minutes before the sound of a sharp breath from behind him made his heart stop.
Gen Last night had been rough on Gen. Every way that she tried to lay in bed only made her more and more uncomfortable, and finally around three in the morning she'd had to get up and walk around. After that, she got back in bed and managed to get at least a little comfortable on her side, stomach supported by a pillow propped underneath of it. She had woken up briefly when Jared got out of bed to go take care of the boys, but had kept her eyes closed and fallen back asleep relatively quickly. It was like Jared just knew when to let her stay in bed and rest, and she was so thankful for that. Around eleven in the morning, she finally woke up and decided that it was time for her to get up and go spend time with her boys, all three of them. Her stomach was tight and uncomfortable, and as she walked and struggled to make it down the stairs, she had to keep one hand under it the whole time. "Yeah, I know." She mumbled in response to Jared, sighing tiredly as she walked - well, more like waddled - around the living room, just kind of tidying things up a little. She'd had that urge for the past few days to make sure everything was perfectly clean and in its place, so some last minute cleaning would be good. Jared was playing around with the boys on the couch and she was too tired to really feel nervous about him wrestling with Shep, so she just kind of stayed quiet and let them do their own thing while she dusted with a damp cloth. It was only a few minutes later that she felt a sharp pain radiate across her stomach, and she moved her hand over it with a quick intake of breath, closing her eyes. Well, it was only a couple days until her due date, so it was perfectly reasonable for her to go into labor now. She opened her eyes when the pain subsided and looked over at Jared, trying to tell him with her eyes what was going on as if he didn't know.
Jared Jared watched with wide eyes, standing up immediately and almost as if they knew something was up, Tom and Shep retreated to their own little world to entertain themselves rather than playing with daddy. Jared swallowed hard as he made his way to where Gen stood, his hands hovering above her stomach in anticipation. His heart started to hammer hard against his chest, his mouth suddenly painfully dry. Okay, they knew this day was coming, and they knew it was coming soon, but as he stood and watched a contraction roll through his wife he suddenly felt more unprepared than he ever had. "I'll call Danneel." Jared said in a strained voice, grabbing his cell phone off the coffee table and dialing her number. He exchanged a few quick words with her, letting her know he needed her to come over and grab the boys anytime in the next 3-4 hours. If Gen's labors with Shep and Tom were anything to go by; there was no rush. He gently grabbed Gen's elbow and led her to the sofa, sitting her down and looking down at her with the same wide eyes still on his face. "Okay, why do I feel like we've never done this before." Jared chuckled at himself, getting down on his knees in front of her and placing both his hands on her stomach and noting how rock hard and low her stomach felt. This was definitely it. "Do you want me to call your mom-" Jared stopped himself, his eyes closing as he realized what he' said. "Your dad. Do you want me to call your dad? Your sister? Can I call Jensen? I gotta call my mom. Should I call the midwife chick now? Do you need some water?" Jared was rambling and he knew it, but there was no way he'd be able to stop himself, the adrenaline really starting to kick in. Gen: Gen was grateful that her boys were so good, and though Shep was only a little over a year old, he obediently followed his brother's lead. She was still standing there near the bookcase with the cloth in her hand that she'd been using to dust, and carefully placed it on a shelf, taking a deep breath as Jared came over to stand in front of her. Her hand moved to his arm, holding onto it as she lowered her head and breathed in deeply, simply trying to keep herself calm. This was something she knew how to do, she knew how to have a baby, and that didn't make her nervous. But Jared seemed like a nervous wreck, and that kind of amused her a little.

This was something she knew how to do, she knew how to have a baby, and that didn't make her nervous. But Jared seemed like a nervous wreck, and that kind of amused her a little. "Thank you." She said, giving him a slight nod and letting him pull away from her. The contractions weren't going to be very close together yet, which was a relief, because she knew they had time for Jared to get out the big box they had everything in in preparation for today. The only thing that needed to be done was for the plastic to be put on the bed and the old sheets to be put over it, and Jared could do that before things got going too quickly. But since Tom and Shep had taken so long, she was confident that they had plenty of time. As Jared led her over to the couch and sat her down, she gave him a reassuring smile, looking down at him and sighing at the feeling of his hands on her stomach. "We're gonna be fine, J. It'll be just like last time, everything will go down with no problems." The mention of her mom made her eyes widen, and she reached up to push her hair back out of her face, not saying anything because she knew Jared had meant no harm by that. "Just call everyone and tell them what's going on, and tell them not to call or text us unless we do first. You can call Jensen. And no, the midwife doesn't need to be called yet. Just text her and tell her we'll call when they're seven minutes apart." She replied, reaching out and gently running her fingers through his hair. "Some water would be great."
Jared Jared forced himself to take a deep breath as Gen spoke, knowing she was right. They were fine. They'd done this twice before and there was absolutely no reason for him to believe that this time was going to be anything other than easy. He leaned over her stomach and pressed a soft kiss to her lips, his hands remaining on her bump as he did so. He smiled against her lips, all of his tense muscles and nerves slowly starting to disappear. If she could be calm, he could be calm. "We're having our baby girl." Jared pointed out with that same affectionate, excited smile on his face. He pushed Gen's shirt up over her stomach, peppering kisses across the ridiculously large bump before he got up and went to get her some water, calling Jensen and everyone else he needed to before he returned and sat down on the sofa beside her. Tom came walking into the room and made his way straight to his dad, pulling himself up onto his lap as Shep followed closely behind. Jared took another breath as he adjusted so they could both sit on each of his knees, facing Gen. "Mommy is having your little sister today." Jared tried to explain, Tom's hands instinctively moving to rest over the big bump in his mom's stomach. Shep held his hands out towards her, still the mommy's boy he'd always been. Jared frowned but knew how involved Gen wanted their boys to be, so he let their youngest son move to cuddle up on her lap, resting his head on her stomach. Just as Jared started to really believe this was going to be fine, that this was going to be like her two other LONG labors, things started to speed up way too quickly. Jared pulled out the box of things they were going to need and called the midwife, setting up a nice little bed for Gen in the living room on the floor rather than in their bed. The living room was warm, the crackling sounds coming from the fireplace setting a quiet, relaxing tone through the house. He grabbed one of her maternity/sports bras and helped her change so her stomach wasn't restricted by her shirt anymore, helping tug off her pants so she was as comfortable as she could possibly be. He didn't even hear Danneel enter their house, hugging her quickly before he grabbed the suitcase he'd packed for the boys. "C'mon, come say goodbye to mommy." Jared instructed them, carrying Shep to where Gen was resting in their living room.
Gen Gen wanted to spend as much time with the boys as she could before Danneel came and got them, because since Tom had been there for Shep's birth, she wanted them as involved as possible. But having two kids running around while she was trying to push out a baby was going to be too much, so in the next couple hours, they would go to Danneel's and hang out with her and JJ and probably Jensen. They'd come home after the baby was born and everything was cleaned up, and then they'd meet their new little sister. Both of them seemed ready enough, Shep even resting his head on her stomach. After about an hour of cuddling their boys, though, things sped up quickly, and the contractions were coming closer and closer together. They were about six minutes apart when Jared called the midwife, and then she watched from where she had gotten up to lean over the couch as he made her a bed on the floor in front of the fireplace. It was a nice thought, because it was warm and she knew that with Jared making it and the amount of pillows he was piling up, she would be as comfortable as she could be. He was being so helpful and gentle, getting her changed, and soon enough, she was in just a sports bra, lower half bare. Her water had broken at some point when he was getting everything ready, so everything was going faster. She was sitting up on the floor, hands resting on her stomach and back propped up with pillows when Jared brought Shep to say goodbye, Tom following. She kissed both of her boys and whispered that she loved them and would see them soon, smiling softly when Danneel came over and pressed a kiss to her forehead, telling her to call as soon as everything was over with. And then they were all gone, and it was just her and Jared. The midwife would be here within the next half hour, but she needed to get up and move around. "J, help me up." She said, reaching out for him and grabbing onto his hands when he moved close enough, letting him pull her up. Immediately, she leaned into him as her eyes shut from the pain of another contraction, her fingers gripping onto his shirt. "Rub my back." She managed to gasp out, her head resting against his chest as she tried to focus on breathing.
Jared Jared was surprised by just how fast things really were moving, especially in comparison to how things were with both their other kids. Like everything else during this pregnancy Jared narrowed it down to the fact they were having a girl. Jared knew to keep his distance until Gen outright stated that she wanted him to touch or come closer to her, having had a pillow thrown at him when she was giving birth to Shep and he got a little too hands on. As soon as she asked for him to help her up he was at her side, carefully lifting her into a standing position and holding onto her when she leaned over. "I got you, baby." He promised, massaging small circles in her back to attempt to help relieve some of the pressure she must have been feeling. She was without a doubt the strongest, bravest woman he knew. The fact she was doing all of this with absolutely no pain medication blew his mind, and he knew it blew a lot of other peoples minds too. "You're okay, I'm here." Jared whispered, pressing light kisses against her head when he heard the midwife knock at the door. He called out for her to come in, offering her a smile as she asked Gen how she was feeling, as if it wasn't the most obvious thing in the world. "C'mon baby, need you to lay down so we can get a read on how close she is." Jared said quietly, keeping his voice as calm and relaxed as was possible as he lay her back down so the midwife could check how dilated she was. He dropped to sit behind her, letting her back lean against his chest, his hands lacing with hers; knowing how uncomfortable it was having her cervix checked. "I'm here, baby." He continued reminding her.
Gen The feeling of Jared's hands massaging little circles on her back relieved the pain barely a little bit, but it gave her something else to focus on besides the intense pain she was feeling, even if it was only for a few moments. The contraction lasted longer than the previous one and when it had passed Gen was breathing heavily, though she tried her best to even out her breathing so that she wouldn't get lightheaded. She was confused when he called out to someone to come in, then realized it was the midwife when she heard the woman speak, almost rolling her eyes but stopping herself at the last moment. Everything was so uncomfortable and she was trying her hardest not to be rude, so she just opted for not talking right now. His voice was warm and soothing as he helped her to lay down, between his legs with her back against his chest, arms wrapped around her and linked with hers. She hated this part, so she simply turned her head and let out a quiet whimper as the midwife snapped on her gloves and poked around down between her legs. After a minute, it was over, but she kept her legs up, her head resting against Jared's shoulder. "Eight centimeters already, Gen, not too much longer." The midwife said softly, giving her a comforting smile. Gen liked this woman, it was the same lady they had used with Shep and she had flown to Bayview at the beginning of the week to stay in a hotel just in case things happened early. Thank god she had. The next hour passed in a kind of blur, with Gen frequently getting up and walking around to help move things along, and the next time she laid down for the midwife to check her, she stopped Jared and tugged on his shirt. "Take your shirt off first." She breathed out, still trying to calm down from the last contraction she'd had. She wanted to feel his warm skin against the almost completely bare skin of her back when she leaned against him, it would be comforting to her and she knew that this time, she wouldn't be getting back up. She was already feeling like she needed to push, and that's why she had laid down again in the first place, because she knew it was soon. The feeling was almost overwhelming.
Jared The second the midwife siad she was already at eight centimetres dilated butterflies started to roll through his stomach. This was happening, he was really about to have a third baby. No, he was about to have a DAUGHTER. His heart was hammering hard against his chest but he did his best to keep his excitement and his nerves under wraps, knowing that whatever he was feeling; Gen was feeling it threefold. He nodded when Gen pulled on his shirt, pulling it over his head and dropping it on the ground before he held up a finger, telling her he'd be two seconds. He disappeared up the stairs, grabbing one of the 0000 sized pale pink onesie that had belonged to JJ. There was something strangely sentimental about reusing newborn clothes. Jared dropped the onesie on the sofa, still unable to believe their baby was so close that they were literally preparing to dress her. "Alright sweetheart, are you ready?" The midwife asked as Jared moved to sit behind her again, her body warm and tense against his. He smoothed his hands over her stomach, getting his last feel of what it felt like to have a pregnant wife for a long time. He took two deep breaths and kissed the dip of Gen's right shoulder, knowing this was without a doubt the hardest part for her. "I'm right here baby, you can do this." Jared promised, whispering quietly. This was exactly how they'd wanted it; quiet, peaceful and just the two of them one and one professional. The whole house smelled of his infamous cookie candles and it made him smile thinking that was the first scent his daughter was going to inhale. "She's ready to meet you, babe." Jared chuckled, trying to keep the atmosphere relaxed and trying to get Gen excited about the fact their baby girl was about to make her grand entrance. "Alright, Gen, whenever you're ready."
Gen Everything was perfect, just how Gen wanted it to be. The room was warm and the smell of cookies was invading her senses, and for a moment, everything was still, like the calm before a storm. The fact that she was about to hold their daughter in her arms made her heart swell, and she had never felt more ready for anything in her life. She closed her eyes, leaning her head back against Jared's shoulder and taking a deep breath. Afterwards, she nodded towards the midwife and moved her hands to Jared's legs to have something to hold onto, pulling her own legs up a little further and tightening his grip on one of Jared's legs as another contraction rolled through her. With that, she pushed, chin tucked in to her chest, and for a moment she wondered why on earth she had wanted to do this again. It was truthfully the worst pain she had ever felt, but she didn't scream. Instead, she focused on the feeling of Jared's warm skin pressed up against her back and the knowledge that once this was all over, she would have a beautiful baby girl in her arms. Everything was moving so quickly, and before she knew it there was this even more intense pain as she pushed out their daughter's head, unable to keep herself from letting out a little whimper. Her eyes filled with tears as she opened them, her body tense as the midwife told her to push one more time. She mustered up the last of her strength and pushed as hard as she could, sweat rolling down the back of her neck and forehead, and sobbed in relief when it was over and their wailing, loud daughter was being placed on her chest. Her arms immediately moved to cradle the fifth member of the Padalecki family as she looked down at their little girl, starting to cry all over again. "God, she's beautiful." She mumbled, lowering her head to press her lips against the baby's forehead. Tears were rolling down her cheeks and she had pretty much forgotten all about Jared because she just couldn't stop staring down at their daughter.
Jared Everything was moving so fast, so much faster than it had with either of their of their boys. Before Jared knew it, he was holding Gen up and letting her use one of his legs as leverage as she started to push. His heart was racing faster than it ever had, his tears burning with tears before anything had even really happened. Gen's scream of pain echoed inside of him, his eyes falling shut as he did all he could to just not speak and just be there for her. He pressed light kisses against the top of her shoulder every now and again as a casual reminder that he was there, his hands shaking as they held onto her. Then, before he knew it, there was a familiar sound wailing through the room. She was here. She was really here. Jared watched with wide eyes as the midwife placed the baby on Gen's chest, his tears freefalling down his face as he leaned under Gen's arms to rest one hand on the babies back. "Happy birthday, sweetheart." Jared chuckled, kissing the side of Genevieve's face as he let her have a moment. He sat quietly behind her, tears still falling down his cheeks as he watched her kiss their daughters face. Fuck, they had a daughter. Jared was completely lost in the pure bliss of it all. So much so he didn't even notice when Gen started to slump back against him. "Jared, can you take little Emilie for us for a moment?" The midwife asked in one of those calm but serious voices that you did not want to hear when your wife was post giving birth. He nodded, trusting her completely as he shifted out from behind her and lifted Emilie up and out of her mom's arms. He wanted to stare down at her, to tell her he loved her and he'd protect her from everything, but his eyes were glued on Gen. "Alright, Gen, we're just going to call an ambulance and make a little trip to the hospital, okay?" The midwife added, Jared's stomach sinking. "Wh-Why?" Jared asked, noting how pale and out of it his wife appeared. He grabbed the baby blanket they'd chosen for Em and wrapped her up tightly, holding her against his chest as he waited for some sort of response. He didn't push it, letting her call an ambulance and do what she had to do first. "Genevieve is just losing a bit more blood than we'd like." The midwife replied eventually, her voice strained and obviously stressed though she was doing her best to keep nice and calm. Jared's eyes drifted down to their daughter, immediately recognizing Gen's features on her brand new, sweet little face. "It's okay, mommy will be okay. You're okay." Jared whimpered, hushing her and rocking from side to side as he heard the painful sound of sirens pulling up in front of their house.
Gen Gen was lost in the moment, simply staring down at their daughter. God, they had a daughter now, a daughter with two big brothers and an amazing mom and dad to protect her. Her eyes were on Emilie's sweet little face, nose scrunched up as she cried but calmed down as Jared's hand was laid across her back. Maybe she was a daddy's girl already. But Gen didn't really have much time to dwell on that, as she started to feel a little dizzy and weak. Her arms were still tight around their baby, but she barely heard the midwife asking Jared to take Emilie until he was moving out from behind her and the baby was no longer against her chest. She leaned back against the pillows heavily, eyes closing as she began to feel even more lightheaded than before. She barely managed a nod as the midwife said that they were going to go to the hospital, not fighting it because she could tell that something was wrong. She hadn't felt this way after she had Shep or Tom, and she heard the midwife's explanation that she was losing too much blood. But she was still calm as she opened her eyes again, looking up at Jared and giving him a weak smile. "I'm okay, J. Just take care of Emilie." She said, voice barely above a whisper. It was hard to keep her eyes open but she forced it, keeping them on Jared as he rocked their daughter. When she heard the sirens, she let her eyes fall shut, breathing a little slower, and she could still hear all of the sounds around her. The commotion of a stretcher being brought through the front door and unfamiliar voices near her head, telling her everything was going to be fine, and then she was being lifted and strapped down loosely, a blanket placed over her to keep her warm. It was impossible to open her eyes again even if she wanted to, though she felt the need to look and see where Jared and Emilie were. Her hand reached out blindly, trying to find Jared's in her weakened state.
Jared Jared watched with panic in his chest and tears streaming down his face as Gen was loaded up onto a stretcher, his daughter quiet and calm against his chest now. He took a deep breath and put her down on the sofa, pulling his shirt back over his head and quickly dressing Emilie in the little pink onesie that seemed to fit her absolutely perfectly. He looked around the room, totally at a loss of what he was supposed to do. "Come with us, man, we can get baby checked out too." One of the paramedics suggested in a reassuring voice, placing a soft hand on his shoulder. Jared nodded and wiped at his eyes, lifting Emilie back up and following them out into the ambulance. He sat beside Gen, lowering his seat so he could hold her hand with the one that wasn't holding onto their daughter. "See, mommy's okay. It's okay." Jared hummed though Emilie's eyes were shut and she was peacefully sleeping away with absolutely no clue what was going on. His heart wasn't racing anymore, his stomach in knots as he let go of his wifes hand and pulled his phone out. He called Danneel first, letting her know what was going on and asking her to call their parents and let them know. After promising to call back when there was more news, he hung up and laced his fingers with his wifes again. As soon as they were at the hospital they whisked Gen off and a nurse came around and asked if she could have a look at their daughter, gesturing Jared into an exam room where she weighed and did all the other junk they do to newborns. 5.8 pounds, almost exactly what Shep had been. She was small, so much smaller than he'd prepared himself for. "She's perfect." The nurse confirmed, letting Jared pick her back up and smile a thank. She ushered Jared into the recovery room they'd put Gen in after stitching her up, a small bassinet beside her bed with Emilies name written on a name tag. He couldn't help but smile as he lay her down, carefully shifting his wife so he could crawl into the bed beside her. "Hey, baby. I'm here. We're both here." Jared whispered, pushing stray hair away from his wifes face.
Gen Gen had passed out in the ambulance and when she came to again, it had been in a room with a doctor between her legs and an IV in her arm giving her blood, and she had been immensely confused for a few moments before the doctor had quietly explained what happened. Apparently she had torn while pushing and had lost some blood, but they were giving her more as quickly as she had lost it, and she wasn't really in any pain. They had numbed her before they started on the stitches so that wasn't a problem, and when they offered her painkillers, she quickly declined them. But she was still sleepy from losing so much blood, so she laid her head back and fell asleep, content with the knowledge that Emilie was safe and happy with Jared. The next time she woke up, it was in a recovery room and the IV was still in her room, but this time when she looked up, there were just fluids in the bag. And Jared was warm next to her, so she snuggled into him, feeling a slight ache between her legs but nothing she couldn't handle. "I remember that she's perfect." She said rather than saying hello, her head tucked up under his chin as she breathed in his scent. He smelled faintly of the cookie candles that he had been burning at the house, and she vaguely hoped that the midwife had blown them all out. Of course, she wasn't happy that they had ended up in the hospital anyway, but her labor and the birth had been just how she hoped it would be, and that was what mattered. After a few moments, she lifted her head and looked around, spotting her daughter in the bassinet next to the bed and practically beaming as she looked back at Jared. "Can you get her for me?" She asked him, pulling away enough to sit up and prop herself up against the bed, now feeling an ache in her stomach as well as the one between her legs, but again, it was nothing she couldn't handle. Standard post-birth stuff. "And she still needs a middle name, babe. You pick it out." She said softly.
Jared Jared let his eyes drift closed for a moments before he felt Gen stirr beneath him, the sound of her voice making him chuckle quietly as he adjusted so he could look at her. It was true, she was absolutely perfect. She had a small amount of brown hair on top of her head and she had Gen's nose; she was perfect. Jared stood up and tried not to frown when he watched her flinch in pain. He knew there was nothing he could do to help but, but holding their daughter was bound to be good start. He leaned back down and pressed his lips tightly to hers, one of his hands holding her face and stroking over her cheekbone; relief washing through him. They were okay. "Hey, baby girl." Jared cooed as he carefully lifted Emilie up and out of her bassinet, pressing a kiss to her forehead as he rocked her slowly, moving to the bed so he could place Emilie in her mom's arms. "Someone wants to meet you officially." Jared smiled as he looked between his wife and their daughter, easily sliding her into Gen's arms. He sighed as he sat on the edge of the bed, getting his first chance to really see them interact. He thought over the middle name, pursing his lips as his mind scrolled through all the important people in his life and he kept getting caught up on one particular person. "What about Jay?" Jared suggested, looking down at Emilie. "Emilie Jay Padalecki."
Gen The kiss Jared gave her made him having to pull away completely worth it, and Gen smiled as she watched him lift their daughter up out of her bassinet. He was so gentle with her, so sure of himself, and Gen was surprised about that. She'd thought that he'd be like he had been with JJ, all nervous and scared he would break her. But Jared just held Emilie close to his chest, and Gen felt her heart swell as he watched her. Seeing him with a baby in his arms was something she would never get tired of seeing, and she hoped that in a couple years, maybe they could have another one. Maybe they could try for another girl in a couple years. Then, all thoughts of anything but Emilie were gone as Jared placed the baby in her arms, and Gen was tearing up all over again as she looked down at her daughter. "Hi, my little angel." She whispered, leaning down and pressing her lips lightly against Emilie's cheek. She stirred, but didn't wake up, instead just letting out a little sigh and settling against her mom's chest. Gen was infatuated with her already, her eyes scanning over the little tuft of brown hair on the top of her head and her nose that was identical to Gen's. But she had Jared's ears, and...well, that was all she had of Jared's. Everything else was like a miniature copy of Gen, and that made her smile widely, looking up at Jared. "Emilie Jay Padalecki...Jay for Jensen and JJ." Gen pursed her lips, eventually grinning and nodding in approval. "It's perfect, baby, I love it. You were awesome during the labor, by the way. You did all the right things." She said, using her free hand to rest it on her thigh, squeezing gently. "And I love you so much, Jared."
Jared Jared watched silently as Gen had her moment with their daughter, kissing her sweet face and holding her against her chest delicately. Jared surprised himself, how confident he was with her. He'd genuinely expected it to be absolutely terrifying but he was so sure of himself; so sure that he could protect her. He had nothing to be afraid of, nothing was ever going to get to her. "I'm sorry we had to come to the hospital, baby." Jared smiled apologetically over at her as though it were his own fault that they'd ended up there. He leaned down and pressed a kiss to the side of Emilie's head, inhaling that intoxicating smell that all newborns seemed to posses. "I love you too. We got our baby girl. Emilie Jay." Jared sighed at the mere sound of her name, his heart aching in his chest. Yep, she already had him wrapped around her little fingers. "Fuck." Jared laughed, shaking his head as tears started to trickle down his cheeks again. He cleared his throat, wiping them away before taking a deep breath. "I'm going to go call everyone, will you be okay for a minute?"
Gen "It's okay, Jared. Not your fault." Gen replied quietly, smiling at him reassuringly. It hadn't been her fault...these things happened sometimes. It was actually quite common for it to happen, though most women didn't lose as much blood. They had just been lucky enough to get to the hospital quickly, because if they hadn't...well, Gen wouldn't be sitting here right now holding their baby. And she was just thanking whoever was looking out for her that they had kept her safe and alive for her kids and for Jared. With a small smile, she reached up and gently wiped away Jared's tears, making a face at him. "Hey, no cursing around the princess." She scolded him lightly, shifting a little to get more comfortable before nodding at him. "Yeah, we'll be just fine. Go let everyone know that we're alright, but don't tell them her name yet. I wanna tell them together." She replied. Once Jared had gone, she looked back down at Emilie and reached up to mess with her hair, the movement waking up the baby and making her purse her lips. Her eyes opened, a dark color that would change over the next few months, and she stared up at Gen for a moment before opening her mouth and letting out a high pitched whine. Gen would know that sound anywhere; it was feeding time. She smiled, whispered to Emilie quietly as she reached her free hand up to pull her hospital gown out of the way, helping their daughter latch on for her first meal. This was important to Gen, this bonding experience, and she had done the same with Tom and Shep, so she was an expert at it. She hummed quietly as Emilie ate, her eyes stuck on the little angel in her arms.
Jared Jared took his time with the phone calls, calling his parents last. The second he heard his moms voice he completely fell apart, his head between his knees as he openly sobbed. He was a momma's boy through and through, and he knew her comfort was all he needed. She let him cry until he was ready to speak, quietly telling her how terrified he was and how goddamn beautiful her granddaughter is. He called Jensen and Danneel next, fighting back tears as he got to talk to the boys and tell them their sister was here and as soon as they were home with her they'd get to meet her. He called Gen's dad and her sister, letting them in on all that had happened and insited that they were both okay. Jared made a point of asking the nurse when he could take his wife home. They promised that if she was upto it they could go home tonight. "Hey, you two." Jared smiled as he came back into the room, his eyes red and sore from the tears but the moment he lay eyes on his daughter and his wife everything seemed okay. They were okay. They were okay. They were going to take her home and everything was going to be okay. Gen was here and she wasn't going anywhere. He waited until they were done feeding before Jared pursed his lips, hesitant to ask. "Can I burp her?" He asked, his hands hovering awkwardly as he reached out for her. "Hey, they said as soon as you're steady on your feet we can take our girl home. That's good, right?"
Gen This was Gen's idea of perfect. Her and their daughter, just bonding while Jared was gone. She loved when they were all together as a family, but she also really liked the moments when it was just her and the baby. It gave them an opportunity to have some one on one time, which Gen knew was extremely important. She had read it in every baby book known to man, which was why she absolutely insisted on breastfeeding for as long as she could. That, and it was so much healthier for the baby. Plus, it would help her lose the baby weight a lot faster than she would if she didn't breastfeed. And yoga would help too, but she'd have to take it easy on that for a few weeks. As Jared came back into the room, she gave him a small smile, noticing how red his eyes were but not saying anything about it. She knew that everything that had happened had probably been really scary for him, her passing out in the ambulance and then being taken away from him and their baby. It was a wonder he hadn't broken down before now. As Jared reached out for Emilie, Gen nodded, gently passing their daughter over to him and getting herself a little more comfortable. She couldn't wait to go home and get settled in, let their boys meet their little sister and see their reactions. "I thought you'd never say that. Yes, the sooner the better. But do I have anything to wear home besides a backless hospital gown?" She asked, laughing a little and leaning her head back against the bed.
Jared Jared chuckled as Gen spoke, nodding his head as he moved to grab the bag that was sitting at the end of her bed. He had packed a hospital bag for both her and Emilie just in case, and as it turns out it was extremely lucky that he did. Their midwife had grabbed it and tossed it into the back of the ambulance with them, and he made a mental note to thank her for it later. He pulled out a pair of black, loose shorts and an oversized tshirt holding them up with one hand to let her inspect. He handed them to her and started to pace around the hospital room, patting on his daughters back until she burped quietly. "Just like daddy." Jared whispered, smirking to himself as he kept pacing in hopes of getting her to fall asleep. He waited until he was sure Gen was dressed before he turned around and handed their daughter back to her. "Okay, I'm going to have to go get the car. Are you two going to be okay for half an hour?" Jared asked in a nervous voice, that overly protective side of him already starting to bubble up.
Gen Gen smiled as she watched Jared get the bag, glad that he had thought ahead and packed one just in case. She didn't remember him packing it, of course, but as took the clothes from him and then grabbed the bag, looking through it, she saw that everything she needed was there. With a sigh, she sat up, pulling off the hospital gown and then tugging the tshirt over her head, one of Jared's, then stood carefully and slipped on the shorts. Afterwards, she settled down on the bed again, getting as comfortable as she could while she watched Jared with their daughter. "What, a little pig?" She teased, eagerly waiting for him to bring Emilie back over to her. Once he did, Gen cuddled the baby close to her chest and pressed a little kiss to her forehead, breathing in that smell all new babies had. Just like milk and sweetness. It was sort of intoxicating. She only looked up when Jared spoke, nodding at him reassuringly. "Yeah, we'll be just fine. She'll probably poop and then sleep the whole time." Gen replied, giving him a small smile and reaching out for him. "Give us a kiss before you go though."
Jared Jared chuckled and rolled his eyes at her, handing their daughter over carefully and running both his hands through his hair. He was glad they were both okay, but now all he wanted was to get them home. He smiled down at the two of them, beyond happy that he and Gen had had that one night together all those damn months ago. She was here; their daughter was finally here. He leaned down and pressed a light kiss to Gen's lips, mumbling how proud he was of her before he kissed Emilie's lip softly. "Happy birthday, Emilie Jay." He whispered against her cheek, peppering it with kisses before he eventually stood up and forced himself to go get the car, promising he'd be back as soon as he could. He drove home a little over the speed limit, making sure the newborn carseat was secured properly before he was heading back to the hospital. He stopped in at the gift shop downstairs, buying mom and baby a cute and pointless "its a girl" balloon before he rushed back up to collect them both. "Right, if you're ready, I want to take my girls home now." Jared said happily as he walked into the room, tieing the balloon to the wheelchair before he held a hand out to help Gen stand, his eyes focused on the little girl safely in her arms. Once he had them both safely in the wheelchair he grabbed a little white newborn beanie out of his back pocket, securing it on her little head with a grin. "NOW she's just like daddy."
Gen Emilie Jay. The name was perfect for their little girl, Gen thought as she stared down at her. Jared had just gone, and if she knew him, he would probably be back in half the time he had said he would be gone. But while she had a few minutes, she was going to just take that time to admire their daughter before they went home and introduced her to the boys. Having three kids would be a challenge, but they could do it together, she was confident. It would just be a little more difficult to find time for just the two of them. While Jared was gone, things went just as Gen thought they would. Emilie had needed a diaper change, so she took care of that quickly, the baby not liking when her onesie had to be pushed up to change her. Apparently, their little girl did not like to be cold, so as soon as Gen had gotten Emilie dressed again, she wrapped her up tightly in the blanket the hospital had provided. Then, she simply sat patting Emilie's back until she fell asleep again. She quietly held a finger to her lips as Jared came back into the room, smiling at the balloon he'd tied to the wheelchair and shaking her head in amusement. "You're so cheesy sometimes." She whispered, letting him help her up, and leaning in for a quick kiss before settling herself in the wheelchair. She adjusted Emilie as Jared pulled the beanie onto her head, looking up at him with a big smile. "I love you."
Jared Jared smiled down at his wife, still amazed at how sure of himself he was before he leaned down and kissed her lips again. Everything was about to change. As soon as they were home with her and the boys came back, everything would be different. His mom had told him the difference between two and three kids is huge, that suddenly it feels like you've got five, but he was confident they could handle it together. The drive home was peaceful, Jared glancing in his rear view mirror every now and again to make sure both mom and baby were comfortable and happy. His phone was quietly playing the playlist he played for all their kids on the way home from the hospital. There was nothing special about it, it just had their wedding song, the first song he heard as a parent and one of Jensen's quiet acoustic covers. "Welcome home, sweetheart." Jared smiled as he pulled into the garage, jumping out of the car and helping Gen out slowly and carefully. As soon as he was sure she was safe on her feet, he let her go and moved to unclip the carseat and lift it out, holding onto it tightly as he led the way up into the house. He held the door open for Gen, concern all over his face at the obvious discomfort she was in. "Why don't you wait with her on the sofa and I'll go set up the downstairs bedroom for you both?" Jared suggested in a quiet voice as he placed the carseat on the kitchen counter and lifted their daughter out of it, taking off her beanie and kissing the side of her head as he did so. He looked around the living room, a few of the boys toys thrown around the floor. "Your brothers can't wait to meet you, baby girl." Jared cooed as he made his way to the sofa, continuing to kiss her head as he did so. "You are so loved, sweetheart." He sighed as he lay her down in her mom's arms.
Gen Gen was happy to be taking their baby girl home, but at the same time, her heart was aching. She missed her mom desperately, and for a split second at the hospital, she had grabbed the phone to call her before she remembered. It would have been wonderful to just be able to talk about how beautiful Emilie was and plan a time for her mom to come visit and meet her new grandchild, but she couldn't do that now. So for the drive home, she was quiet, her eyes on their new daughter as Jared played soft music to keep Emilie calm during the drive. As they pulled into the garage, Gen looked up, letting Jared help her out of the car and leaning against him for a moment until she was sure she was steady enough to walk. Everything was starting to ache, and she couldn't wait to get inside and relax in front of the fire for a little while. She waited for Jared, holding onto his arm as they walked into the house, going slow for her benefit. He was so helpful after every birth, so perfect, she would have to remember to do something for him to make up for it. "I kind of wanna lay in our bed, upstairs." Gen replied, giving him a pout as she very carefully sat down on the couch, making a face as she shifted around until she was comfortable laying on her side with her head propped up on the pillows. Jared was only a few feet away in the kitchen, but that felt too far, and she sighed in relief once he came over and brought Emilie back to her. Gen cradled her close, reaching out with her free hand and grabbing onto his shirt. "Wait, just sit with us for a little while before you go do anything." She murmured.
Jared Jared relaxed Emilie down into her mom's arms and was about to rush upstairs to try and get everything organized for them both when he felt Gen's hand on her shirt. He sighed almost in relief at the sound of her words, nodding as he lifted their daughter up and slid into the place she'd been resting; it was a tight squeeze but with Gen laying on her side it was easy enough. Jared settled Em on his chest and opened his arm up for Gen to shuffle closer and rest her head on his chest beside their daughter. He'd been running around like a madman all day, his whole body relaxing as he got his first chance to just be with the two of them. "Is she smaller than you expected?" Jared asked, smoothing and hand up and down their baby girls back to keep her nice and relaxed. Her eyes were open, looking across at Gen as though she knew EXACTLY who she was looking at. His lips hovered over the top of her head, so relaxed it was ridiculous. He sighed quietly as he turned his head to the left, kissing Gen's temple. "That was the scariest thing I have ever experienced." He told her, his heart racing at the mere memory of what it looked like seeing her being loaded onto that stretcher. "I swear if something had happened to you..."
Gen Gen pressed herself back against the couch to make more room for Jared, hands hovering nervously as Jared lifted Emilie up to lay down himself. She let herself relax when the baby was laying securely on Jared's chest, scooting closer and resting her head on his chest close to Emilie's sweet little face. It was hard not to look at their baby, she was just so perfect and beautiful; just like Tom and Shep had been, like they still were. And she couldn't wait for them to meet their little sister, she just hoped that neither one of them would be jealous of the attention the new baby would get. There would be special times though, where they would just spend one on one time with the boys. "Yeah, she's even a little smaller than Shep was, I think." Gen replied, smiling as she looked across at Emilie. The baby was looking directly at her, and Gen knew it was probably because she'd recognized her mom's voice, but it still warmed her heart that their daughter was already so relaxed and chilled out with them. Maybe it was a sign that she would be an easy baby. She frowned as she heard Jared's heart speed up under her ear, moving her hand to his stomach and rubbing little circles on his skin. "But I'm okay, and everything still went smoothly. It was lucky that we were able to get to the hospital so quickly so they could fix it." She replied, leaning up and kissing his cheek gently. "Just a tear, baby. Three stitches, that's all."
Jared Jared nodded as Gen spoke, knowing that she really was okay and she was going to be okay. They were home now, and at the end of that day that's all he wanted. He wanted his whole family under the one roof and though it happened dramatically, at least they were all together now. Well, almost all together anyway. He pulled his phone out of his back pocket, keeping a firm but soft hand on Emilie's back to keep her from shifting to much as he moved. He made a quick call to Danneel, letting her know she was alright to bring the boys back whenever she was ready. "I am so proud of you, sweetheart." Jared whispered to Gen, turning his head to the side so he could press a light kiss to the side of her head. The feeling of her fingertips still on his stomach was strangely soothing, and not a minute of pure silence passed before Em started to fuss and cry. He chuckled quietly as he sat up, rubbing her back softly knowing exactly what it was she wanted. "I get the feeling that was the one quiet moment we were going to get." Jared smiled as he handed their daughter to her mom, running both his hands through his hair as he settle beside the two of them, watching her feed silently. "Dadddddyyy!" An excited squeal came from the front door, Jared frowning as Emilie flinched against her mom's chest. Jared was on his feet straight away, meeting Tom, Shep and Danneel in the entry way. He scooped both the boys up and whispered a "shhhh" at them before he kissed Danneel goodbye after hearing her quietly promise to come visit and meet the baby tomorrow. "Your little sister is here, you gotta be very quiet, okay?" Jared whispered, kissing each of his boys heads as he put them down and shuffled them toward the living room.
Gen "I know you are. I'm proud of how well you handled everything." Gen whispered, closing her eyes briefly as Jared pressed his lips to the side of her head. He really had handled it so smoothly, keeping Emilie calm while Gen couldn't, and she could not thank him enough for that. It seemed like only moments before their daughter was starting to fuss, and Gen already knew what that cry meant...that one meant it was time to eat, and she smiled. This was her favorite thing to do. "You're probably right about that." She laughed lightly, carefully taking Emilie from Jared and pulling her shirt up, adjusting until she was comfortable enough and then simply staring down at their daughter as she ate. It startled Gen almost as much as it startled Emilie when a sudden squeal came from by the front door, and she quietly shushed Em, calming her down again to keep feeding. She could hear her boys just around the corner, Jared telling them to quiet down and Danneel saying something too quietly for her to hear. It would have been amazing for her best friend to meet her goddaughter, but not today. Today was about them, and Danneel could come tomorrow and get a good look at Em. She smiled softly at the boys as Jared shuffled them towards their little sister, and Gen reached her free arm out, gesturing for them to come sit on the couch next to her. "Come on, come meet your baby sister." She said quietly. Emilie was still eating, and she didn't want to pull her away, so she simply angled her body so that the boys could get a good look at their sister.
Jared Jared smiled affectionately down at Emilie and Genevieve as he scooped Shep up so he could sit on his dad's knee beside Tom. He pursed his lips, running a hand through Tom's long hair as the two boys took a moment to just look at her, obviously trying to decide what they thought of the new family member. Shep reached out first, placing a gentle hand on the top of the baby girls head. Jared felt the smile pull back onto his face as he looked up at Tom who was still staring with curious eyes. "This is Emilie, this is your little sister man." Jared told him quietly as Shep continued to lightly touch the little girls head. Jared was surprised that it was Tom who seemed shy and hesitant toward his little sister, genuinely expecting that shep was going to struggle the hardest with having to share. Tom looked between his mom and dad, a slight frown on his face before he stood up on the sofa and rested a hand on Gen's shoulder so he could get a closer look, his face mere inches from Emilies as she looked up at her biggest brother.
Gen Gen watched as Shep touched Emilie's head, in awe of how gentle he knew he had to be, and looked over at Tom, the one that had been attached to her stomach the whole time she had been pregnant. "She was in mommy's tummy, remember? When you put your hands on my tummy and felt her kicking?" She said, reaching out and gently ruffling Tom's hair, Shep seeming to not need the reassurance right now. "You can touch her, baby, just be very, very gentle." She told him, giving him a small smile. As Tom stood up on the sofa, Gen moved her hand to his back to steady him, smiling as he leaned in close to his little sister. "What do you think, Tom? Do you like your new sister?" She asked quietly after a moment, gently pulling Emilie up onto her shoulder when she stopped feeding, and lightly patting her back to burp her. "She likes to eat just as much as you and Shep, too." She teased, lifting her head a little and giving him a little kiss on the cheek.
Jared Jared sat quietly, his lips pursed and his arms wrapped around his middle child while Gen tried to explain and reassure Tom that it was okay for him to love and touch her. It was obvious he was strangely nervous, so Jared shifted Shep to sit down beside him before he patted his knees for Tom. He lifted the three year old onto his lap and waited for Gen to finish burping Emilie before he reached for her. He carefully moved her so she was resting in Tom's lap, Jared's hand underneath her neck to make sure she was safe and supported. Tom squirmed uncomfortably for a few seconds before Emilie's little fingers wrapped around his thumb. That seemed to do it, a small smile on his face as he placed his free hand on her stomach. "Mommy, she likes me." Tom giggled as he looked between Gen and the baby that was staring up at him like she was seeing the sun for the first time. Jared kissed the back of his son's head, clearing his throat as tears burned behind his eyes. "Her name is Emilie, can you say hi to her?" Jared asked quietly, butterflies rolling through his stomach as he anticipated hearing their daughters name fall from their eldest sons lips for the first time. Tom nodded as he leaned down to kiss Emilie's head, the little girl frowning at her view being obstructed. "Hi Emilie, you're my sister." Tom announced proudly, Jared's bottom lip starting to quiver.
Gen As Jared took Emilie and placed her in Tom's lap, Gen simply sat back and watched, not nervous about her son holding the baby in the slightest. When Shep had been born, Tom had held him almost immediately afterwards, and everything had been fine. Plus, Gen and Jared were both right here with him. Jared's hand slipped under Emilie's neck as Tom frowned, but the moment the baby's fingers wrapped around Tom's thumb, it was all over. He smiled and seemed a lot more comfortable holding his little sister, and Gen couldn't have been more relieved. Tom's sweet little giggle made her heart melt and she reached up to rub at one of her eyes, trying to stop the tears that were slowly gathering. It was clear that they would be as close as Tom and Shep were, if not closer...Tom was the oldest, and he would surely be fiercely protective of his two younger siblings. "Yep, Emilie is your sister, and you know what that means? It means that you have to look out for her and protect her." Gen replied, glancing up at Jared and noticing the way his bottom lip was quivering. She smiled softly, pushing herself up a little and leaning in to gently press her lips against his. "I think our family has its missing piece now." She whispered once she pulled away, placing her hand gently on Emilie's head and brushing her thumb over the little bit of hair there.
