Saw someone in a youtube comment section asking why the reincarnated(?) viking chief was taking so long to catch up to spear & co and it just put the funniest image in my mind of what he must be going through
Like, by virtue of being a vengeful spirit or whatever he can FEEL wherever Spear & Fang go, but every time he starts to catch up to them, their damn boat changes direction
Hes just . . . still there, methodically slogging along across the ocean floor for months
Guess who I made on Tomodachi Life 👀
what would your ideal eldar (from primal) fic be about?
Hiya! Thank you so much for the question! I've actually been thinking about it for quite some time now, and if I were to read a fanfic (or even write one myself) starring Eldar, it would definitely mess with canon a bit 😅
I'm big on the idea that he could return as an antagonist in the future after his father killed Spear. I think I talked about this before, but I theorise that Eldar's father was given a chance not only to avenge him, but to grant him a second chance at life if he succeeded in his quest to kill Spear (which he technically did? Sort of-) Anyways! My ideal fanfic would involve the mysterious norse deity/ruler of the underworld returning Eldar to the world of the living so that he may earn his place in the Valhalla after living a long, fulfilling life. Eldar is still hunted by the memory of his clan being slaughtered, however, and thus seeks revenge. He would either join a clan or start his own as the new chieftain and then go looking for Spear, Mira, and Fang around the time Spear and Mira's daughter is older. He embarks on this quest to avenge his family as well as his former clan, arriving in Mira's village with the intent to strike (I assume he'd remember where it is located since that's where his father got the slaves from)
I'm not quite sure if he'd want to take it out on everyone or if he'd target the trio specifically, maybe he'd even try targeting Spear and Mira's daughter to get back at them, but at the end of the day I would want a happy ending. One where either Spear or Mira choose to spare him or even save him. Something that would make Eldar realize they're not some blood thirsty killers but humans who, in order to survive, had to resort to carnage. At the end of the day his clan was the one kidnapping and enslaving all those people, so they couldn't really be blamed for fighting for their freedom. Eldar is conflicted at first, though. He would not be okay with everything and forget all about it straight away. Maybe in order to at least begin to trust them Mira would offer to take care of his injuries and he'd slowly but surely come around, albeit being all pouty about being looked after
Summing up, I would love the "finding a common ground and forgiving each other" approach! That's the essence of Primal, after all. Everyone is just trying to survive in their own way, and that sometimes involves taking drastic and even cruel measures... Overall I would looove some character development for Eldar. He has so much potential!
in your fic idea where eldar comes to mira’s village to take revenge, how do you think he’ll deal with a culture that’s (presumably) fairly different from his own?
Hmmm I think he'd take a bit to adapt. I can see him making weird faces and trying not to get involved, but upon being encouraged by Mira he'd roll his eyes and join in on whatever activity. It would take quite a bit from Mira's people's behalf to trust him, though. They'd be weary at first until they realize he no longer has ill intentions!
what do you think eldar's personality would be like in ordinary circumstances, when he's not bent on avenging his slaughtered people and village?
Oooh, I think he's the eldest child with the weight of the world on his shoulders. From a young age he insists on proving himself and it didn't change when he entered adulthood. He strikes me as the kind of man who seeks his father's approval (as seen when Eldar smiles upon receiving a head pat) given that he was most likely next in line to become the clan's chieftain. I also think he has a low tolerance for teasing judging by the way he started chasing his little brother around with a scowl on his face when he hit him with that bone on the head. Also, while Eldar did allow his father to hug him upon finding his dead brother, I think he's not big on physical affection. Eldar strikes me as the kind of guy who would stand perfectly still if hugged without warning and there're two ways this can go: if it's someone he knows and is close with, he'll just grunt and eventually return the embrace while mumbling something under his breath. If it's someone else he's shoving them. He doesn't initiate hugs unless something big happens or if he feels a particular way about someone (he reminds whoever it is to not get used to it lol). As for other stuff, I think he'd enjoy hunting, carving wood and sparring. He's a bit competitive and takes honor very seriously. Pull a dirty move enough times and he will have no respect for you as a fighter
any headcanons/thoughts about eldar from primal?
Could it be? I reeled in someone who's interested in an unpopular character I like? A MIRACLE! Okay, okay! Ehem! (Mild spoilers ahead!)
I don't have a crazy amount of headcanons on him, but I do perceive him to be a young adult in his early twenties! He does strike me as someone who's relatively new to the "family business" (if you can even call it that) so I wouldn't be surprised if the trip he made together with his father was either the first he ever made or among the first few ones.
Also, I'm not sure if this is just me, but throughout his time on screen I couldn't help but notice that his features become sharper maybe as a result of the events unfolding taking a toll on his mental health? Then again it could just be an animation/design inconsistency and I'm looking too much into it lol (I spent way too much time recording stuff for the GIFs).
What else, what else... He doesn't strike me as exceptionally cruel. When he returns to the docks together with his father and deceased family, he could've taken it out on the poor people they kidnapped, but instead he chose to free them. Now, does this make him or his father any less guilty? Absolutely not. What I mean to say is, I like how he's not completely bad! I looove multidimensional antagonists/villains. For instance, the way him and his father care so deeply about their family even if they were not any better (yk because owning slaves is wrong)
Finally, when his father descended to what I assume to be the underworld, I interpreted his exchange with the, uh- Demon? Norse deity? As a deal of sorts. Or maybe just a chance to avenge Eldar's death. The latter is most likely, but a headcanon of mine is that this mysterious character promised that if Eldar's father managed to kill Spear and bring him to the underworld, he would either grant Eldar access to the Valhalla or give him a second chance at life to earn his place there! Kind of like an exchange: Spear's soul in exchange for his son's
