Born into an educated family, Ethan grew up practically attached to his older brother, Freddy, in a small village in the countryside. For many years, the two had lived in innocent bliss--free to play in the creek behind their childhood home, lose themselves in the woods beyond the stream, and be home to play songs with their music teacher mother and read more from their father’s literature for his classes. Curiosity an ever-encouraged aspect of their adolescence. That encouraged curiosity was nearly the death of Ethan at age 12. While the two brothers were playing down in the creek-bed, they found a book that seemed to appear out of nowhere, just for them. Filled with ancient symbols and diagrams neither had ever seen, however, somehow felt like a second language to them, the two quickly becoming compelled to enact one of the books simple rituals. In the darkness of their cellar, the two unknowingly made contact with The Things beyond the Veil. Ethan having the misfortune of being Touched by the Eldritch--a gift in the form of a curse, or a curse bestowed as a gift; he still isn't sure--he was given powers and knowledge he never asked for. The event and the effect of it resulted in deep psychological trauma for both boys, physically changing Ethan and permanently altering his psyche by the contact, leaving him in a weeklong coma. While Ethan was in his comatose state, Freddy, being the older brother, was saddled with the blame entirely by their parents, disowning and kicking him out at 16. By the time Ethan awoke, Freddy had long since left, on his own journey that would take him to the last frontier and the brinks of survival in the icy tundra. Leaving Ethan to deal with his own fury with his parents over the banishment of Freddy, swearing that he’d reunite with his brother one day. At 16, Ethan would leave home not only because of his promise to find Freddy, but also because of the psychological distress that his new abilities caused on others. His verbal ferocity toward others resulting in psychological and even physical harm, this becoming even more powerful when paired with his musical talents. Reputation proceeding him in his travels, becoming semi-known as the most vicious bard alive.
