There’s always been this whole different world just a short boat ride away, but for someone like Eleanor it might as well have been on another planet.

King’s Island is for royalty, for diplomats and for the filthy rich. Eleanor has been born on the wrong side of the river and she has no reason to doubt that this is where she’s going to die some day.

This is from one of my original "WIPs" City of Kings and Queens, because why not 😊

Her heart started to pound.

It had been three months since she had handed in her application for the Royal Academy's scholarship. But with summer break just a few weeks away and no word back she had already made her peace with the fact that she would not be spending her senior year at the prestigious private school on King's Island.

Yes, the admission process was rumored to be very hush hush and the applicants were not supposed to talk about it as long as it was ongoing, but she had assumed that had she made the next stage – whatever it was – she would have known by now.

And now there it was. Gold on blue and heavy and full of possibility. What else could it be? Surely they wouldn't go all out on every single rejection letter, would they?

The courier uncomfortably cleared his throat and Ellie realized that she was still standing in the open door and she wondered if maybe she was supposed to tip the young man. But when she looked up she found him extending a small notepad. "I need your fingerprint, Miss Ramirez.“

"Of course, I'm sorry!“ She quickly put her index finger on the square touchpad. There was a small beeping sound and the courier nodded.

"Thank you."

What is your current muse(s)’s biggest fear? How would they cope when faced with it? - from, Foxesandmagic

I’ll do this for my (current) faves :)

Alexandria was always simultaneously afraid of staying trapped in her family’s strict structure and power plays and never displaying a gift and being left out in the cold. Her coping mechanism was to just pretend not care about anything at all. When she finally displays these fears kinda become obsolete, but get soon replaced by a fear of being the cause of Caleb’s apparently impening death. Again, not coping all that well. Or at all…

Callie discovers that with the awakening of her mermaid side, comes a predatory aspect that seems impossible to supress. So her biggest fear is hurting - or worse killing - Noah when this predator takes over. She “copes” by trying to stay out of the water, simply not changing at all, but that soon proves to be very detrimental to her health and Noah basically forces her. In the end she discovers that she is strong enough to control her urges and that she is not the monster she was so afraid she had become…

Ellie used to be scared of never making it out of the “almost” poverty that she grew up in and she does everything she can think of to make sure this doesn’t happen, but as we all know this fear evaporates rather early on in the story. From then on out new fears basically keep piling up. To not fit in. To be the Island’s lauhing stock. Not make any friends. Lose her old friends. To disappoint her grandmother. To become ike her. Hurting Ravi or Xander. Losing Ravi or Xander… And caught in this whirlwind (and because this seems to be a recurring theme with me my characters) she just never stops to try and cope and basically she is a loveable ball of anxiety.

Lily, to exactly nobody’s surprise, is afraid of her newly discovered powers and the danger that comes with having grown up unaware and never learning how to control them. But she copes with this fear by trying to learn controlling her powers as fast as she can. And she has a very calming presence by her side with Kaleb and everyone is super supportive, too.

What is your current muse's favourite time of the year? Is there a reason for it, such as the weather or a special event/memory? - from, Foxesandmagic

Soooo... Ellie again ❤️

She doesn't really have a favourite season, because living in the city it's just various degrees of pollution and later on the Island everything is regulated by the security dome covering the whole thing.

But she really loves Christmas with her mum and abuela and when she's away from them and homesick on the island it's the best ever holiday surprise when someone makes it so that she can see them - I will probably have to toss a coin in order to decide if it'll be Xander or Ravi, because they are both awesome 🥰

Can I be cheeky and ask for spoilers for City of Kings and Queens, please? (I know it's not fanfic, but I thought I'd ask, ha) - from, Foxesandmagic

Initially it's Xander who lays down a "we can't ever date" kinda rule. He knows that he will very probably be traded off as part of some treaty one day and is just overall disillusioned when it comes to matters of the heart and he feels that Ellie isn't a girl you fool around with and then leave unscathed. So he is the one suggesting that it would probably be best if they were just friends.

BUT things happen, feelings change and suddenly the poor boy is so madly in love with his best friend's girlfriend (AND has a very distinctive idea that she might be returning those feelings) and things are overall terrible.

And then they finally tell each other what's really going on inside their hearts and that they wanna be together and everything is going to be so romantic and perfect (unless you're Ravi ofc), but then someone leaks a devastating gossip bomb that could potentially destroy Ravi's family and their whole political legacy and of course neither Ellie or Xander would ever go and further hurt Ravi in a time like this by breaking his heart and so things are back to being awful 🤷🏻‍♀️💔

What is your current muse(s)’s favourite thing to do when they have a spare moment? – from, Foxesandmagic

Following the result of my NaNoWriMo poll, Imma go with Ellie here - in her spare moments she likes to be for herself. It's hard for her to get used to this pampered lifestyle - always having staff around, always being watched, living under a magnifying glass all day every day. So she enjoys having little moments to herself, just being alone with her thoughts.

But she also loves and appreciates every moment she gets to spend with Xander and Ravi - to her they (along with Della) are King's Island saving grace and no matter how messy things eventually get between the three if them, she can't go a day without seeing or at least talking to them. <3

On a more superficial note - there are things Ellie doesn't resent about her new life and she is not opposed to an afternoon by the pool xD
