Next election, Liberals are going to tell you that you NDPs should just vote Liberal because we, "have the same goals" and "our parties are so similar".
But when our goals are Pharmacare, and Trudeau votes against Pharmacare, they say "jurisdiction". They tell us that the Liberals are working on it after voting against negotiating with the Provinces on Pharmacare, and allocating no new money in Budget 2021 for Pharmacare.
When the goal is Electoral Reform, and Trudeau breaks his promise to the electorate, to make 2015 the last election under First Past the Post, they say there was no consensus. Even when there was. In fact, Mixed-Member Proportional was recommended, but Trudeau preferred a ranked ballot and when his preference wasn't chosen by the committee, he said there was no consensus.
When the goal is to remove profit from Long Term Care homes after watching Canada's most vulnerable die in for-profit homes, they decry the constitution. When Trudeau promises to increase standards for LTC instead, then he later walks back those commitments, in favour of lobbying and special interest groups, they go silent.
When the goal is to create a new wealth tax to tax the rich 1% on $20 Million after watching the largest transfer of wealth go to the already wealthy top in our history, this pandemic; they say that Trudeau already did raise taxes on the rich by creating a new tax bracket; so that's, that.
Liberals will tell you on the Left that our goals are aligned but every step of the way, every time it's proven that left-wing policy goals are not the Liberal party's goals, their base enables the party and they do not fight with us on the Left.
A liberal majority will not produce the kind of progressive policies that many of us would like to see, and when it comes to activism for these policies, I'm sorry to say, most Liberal voters do not behave like allies. They are silent or they enable the status quo with these talking points out of loyalty to the party and Justin Trudeau instead of loyalty to these ideals that they tell us we share in elections.
So next election, I urge you to vote your conscience. Look at what our Liberal friends have done, at every policy let down; not just what they say when trying to get your vote. Then vote for the party who stands up and fights for these progressive policies and more, because they are not coming from the Liberals.
