Here's what to do if you're turned away at the polls

Even if you have the legal right to vote and have done everything to prepare yourself for Election Day, you could still be turned away at the polls. Know your rights when you vote, know the law and stand your ground.

Key Points: 

Bring an ID with you even if your state doesn’t require it

If you’re told you can’t vote—in this order—ask poll workers to check other lists for your name, ask to sign an affidavit swearing your eligibility, and ask for a provisional ballot (don’t forget to follow up later to make sure it was counted)

You can vote even if your voter registration is pending

Also:

Any residents who can't see well, have a disability, or have trouble reading or writing or understanding English can bring someone with them to the polls. This can be a friend or relative, but can't be a boss or labor union representative.

This also means you can be an interpreter or assistant for friends or family who might have trouble with the ballots!
