Role Of Election Workers In The Voting Process
When an election is conducted then there are many people who are actively involved in it. They do not belong to any particular party. But the whole election process in held under their guidance. Though it is not at all easy for them. There are many such areas in India where conducting the election is similar to be in a war zone. Many election workers even have to lose their life in the process of election. The problems of these workers would be reduced only when election voting app is brought in use. By the usage of this app the issues involved in booth based voting system could be reduced as well as the problems of elections will come to an end.
The overview of current voting system
In current voting system, polling stations are constructed where the citizens have to come and cast their vote. These stations are open from 7’o clock in the morning to 10’o clock in the night. So the election workers have to reach the station at 6:30a.m for setting up the equipment. In the time duration when election will be conducted staffs are not permitted to leave the premises. This is done in order to maintain the secrecy of vote. They have the good knowledge of the voting procedure and they are completely responsible for conducting the complete voting process. All these processes would be simplified only if online voting system is brought in light.
Different tasks performed by election workers:
They are in charge of a polling station where they have to ensure that all the electors are treated equally and with respect.
The responsibility of maintaining the secrecy of the ballot is also on them.
They also have to attend the training session that is provided by electoral services.
They are responsible for confirming that the arrangements for key collection and opening and closing of the polling is done the day before the election.
The election workers have to collect the ballot box and check the contents before Election Day.
Transportation of the ballot box is also assigned to the election workers.
They have to be attentive and they are responsible for health and safety of all the staffs and voters who visit the polling station.
They have to ensure that the polling station is closed on time and then have to complete the ballot paper account and associated paperwork.
Then finally they deliver the ballot box and the associated papers to the count location.
After going through these points it is easily visible that the role of election workers is very tough. They have to work for more than 16 hours at a stretch. It is not only very tiresome job but it also includes lots of responsibility. But all these could be abolished only when the online voting system is brought in light. If all the process is conducted online, then there is no need of polling station and hence the work and responsibilities of election workers will be reduced to a great extent.
