Vocals and Lyrics by Glen Reynolds Bass by Romain Lepage The song is about how difficult it is to make it in the music industry- the man on the path in the first verse is an allegorical reference to the path we take in music from the beginning (barefoot and clumsy as we begin our career, and wondering where/how we will ever meet others with our own musical interests). The second verse is about how when you become a writer song ideas come to you all the time, and you have to commit to recording them or they may be lost forever (Bouncing inside my mind, can't trip on what's behind = once a song is recorded you can't "lose" it). The bridge or third verse is about the song itself as its presenting itself to you- in my allegory she song is like a dolphin following a boat race (a regatta). The boat race is the band, and the dolphin is alive, following along, waiting to be noticed, just like the inspiration for a song is. The ending verse/rollout is about the reality of the music industry; you can't just get on a TV show and become a hit maker, you've got to dig into the depths of your own creativitity and "let the unknown breathe". The chorus is an allegorical reference to how frustrating it can be when you are a writer and no one seems to notice your work.
