The first step in the e coat paint process is pretreatment. It’s important to clean a surface properly before attempting to apply any kind of coating, or you may end up with unsatisfactory results. During the pretreatment process, the metal is cleaned, then a phosphate is applied to ready the surface for coating.
The second step in the e coating process is the application itself. The metal part is submerged in a bath containing deionized water and paint solids. Then, an electric charge is applied to the bath. The electric charge causes the paint solids to be attracted to the metal surface, and they cover it in an even coating.
The third step in the e coating process is the post-rinse. Once the coating on the metal part has reached the desired thickness, it is removed from the bath. It is then rinsed to remove any excess paint. This residual material can then be added back into the bath for further e coating applications.
The fourth and final step in the e coat paint process is curing. The coated part is placed in an oven to bake until it hardens into a durable finish.
