The first version of Tetris (seen in the GIF above) was released 35 years ago today (June 6, 1984) for the Electronika 60 home computer in the USSR. With over 100 official (and no one knows how many unofficial, unlicensed knockoffs) combined remakes, rereleases, ports, and spin-offs spanning nearly every personal computer and video game console, it is arguably the most popular video game of all time. It's success in the US would be solidified in July of 1989 when it was bundled with the Nintendo Gameboy, which conversely made the Gameboy a must-have console.
