Front endpapers are chipped and loose. Hinges tight. Binding square. All edges gilt. All illustrations and pages are present. Illustrations are protected by tissue guards. Doré's sublime and chillingly macabre imagery illuminate Poe's eerie poem of sadness and longing for the dearest Lenore. Gustave Doré passed away in 1883 after completing this work–his last commission.Text block and illustrations are in great shape (See pictures). No writing or annotations. My grandmother owned the Elephant Folio and I used to page through it as a kid.  I was horrified by some of the paintings, and this one stayed in my mind a long time.
